David Luiz in the team of the year. Hilarious.

Comprehensively humiliated in Brazil but still makes the team.

Pathetic isn't it. None of it's about football, it's about names, personalities and money. This fucking shite can go in the shitness of modern footie thread.

This is a bullshit award without Suarez, who was the best footballer in Europe last season.

It's not based on last season, it's based on 12 months. His best performances came in the first half of last season anyway. Then after that he decides to bite someone so doesnt come back until November.

I was hoping Roche would win the Puskas award thing but James rightly won it.

Hodgson knows his onions...

No Roy Hodgson vote for Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi

England manager Roy Hodgson has raised eyebrows after deciding not to vote for winner Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi in the Ballon d'Or ballot.

Instead, Hodgson plumped for Argentina midfielder Javier Mascherano  as the world's best player of 2014.

Hodgson's other choices were Germany duo Philipp Lahm and Manuel Neuer.

"Ronaldo and Messi are the best players on the planet, how could they both possibly not be in your top three?" tweeted  ex-England star Gary Lineker.

Former Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa and Liverpool forward Stan Collymore said:  "Interesting insight into Roy Hodgson and his philosophy. Not one creative flair player in his choices for BDO."

And ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher added:  "Love Roy Hodgson going for a clean sheet with his Ballon D'or picks. 1) Mascherano 2) Lahm 3) Neuer."

The only other person to put Barcelona midfielder Mascherano - who played for Hodgson at Liverpool - top was Belarus boss Andrei Zygmantovich.

Ronaldo, 29, won for the second year running, and third time in his career, with 37.66% of all the votes cast by the 181 national team coaches, 182 national captains and 181 media representatives included.

The Portugal captain, who helped Real Madrid win an unprecedented 10th European Cup title in May, beat Barcelona forward Messi (15.76%) and Bayern Munich goalkeeper Neuer (15.72%) to the award.

Neither Ronaldo nor Messi voted for each other in their top three - in a repeat of last year.

Messi, 27, chose fellow Argentine Angel Di Maria and Barcelona team-mates Andres Iniesta and Javier Mascherano while Ronaldo plumped for Sergio Ramos, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema, all team-mates at Real Madrid.

England captain Wayne Rooney awarded Ronaldo, his former Manchester United team-mate, his first vote.

His second pick was Germany midfielder Toni Kroos and third was Bale, both of whom play their club football for Real Madrid and have been linked with moves to Old Trafford.

In fact, 82 of the captains who voted found no place for four-time winner Messi in their top three.

The whole thing is a load of bollocks these days. It's just the Oscars rehashed for the round ball with egos, whinging speeches and shite clobber all over the shop.

Wankers, the lot of them.

That's increasingly becoming how I view pretty much everyone involved in football these days.

The voting system seems be a bit Eurovision to me. It's all political now, they need to find a new way of voting. Ronaldo for instance picked Ramos as his 1st vote, Ramos whilst having a decent season provided Ronaldo with no competition if he voted for him. If Ronaldo was picking a defensive player then surely either Lahm or Neuer were the best 2.

Same goes with most of the other players too. Messi picked people who provided no competition to him. As for picking Benzema ahead of every other forward in the world is ridiculous.

I read Suarez made a very good point the other week, that if they take the whole year, including his World Cup bite, then they should consider Ronaldos piss poor World Cup. How Suarez was not in the top 3 makes an absolute joke of the whole thing anyway.

Whilst that's technically true, Mascherano only played one competitive match under Hodgson before leaving because he knew Hodgson was a useless fucker.
