Thought I'd post in here rather than create a new thread. Anyone know their disco/pop fancy pointing me in the direction of some old school bangers? Me and my mate are in the process of putting on our own night, but we've come to the realisation we don't know enough songs that will get the booties shaking.

- Good thread though. I will post some general chit chat soon.

Not trying to be rude here mate, but how the hell can you expect to DJ at a club night if you don't know your tunes? That's a bottom line fundamental of DJing; more important than mixing, even.

Just bang a Donna Summer album on and go to the bar

I shall check them out. Cheers ears.

Well the original idea was me and him would cover the guitar based stuff and our mate would cover the electronic and hip hop side of things, but now he's leaving the area and we actually did some market research and it seems like the 20somethings actually want some pop, disco and funk in there too. Who'd have funk it.

We just wanted to do a night that appealed to us and our friends, but then the guy that owns the venue said we can have the second floor to play around with to and we had a brainstorm and decided we wanted a room where the people could dance and a room where people could sit about stoned if they so desired and just listen to ace guitar based music. Our mate leaving town has left us in a bit of a pickle because while we (at least think) we know songs that will get people moving, we dunno if we've got 3-4+ hours worth of the stuff. We've decided we're not going to launch until 2015 though so it gives us plenty of time to sort or/and draft someone in.

There was a pretty good thread on the other site with links to a bunch of old school funk band tracks - I just tried to search and it doesn't come up.

Get your hands on the first three Chic records.

Sort of related, but anyone read 'Hit Men' by Frederic Dannen? Stories about all the recreational drugs going around during the disco era won't be a surprise. But it was a fascinating read about payola, how deals were done, and all the other shady goings on between labels and artists.
