No idea about Metallica as I don't really listen to them, sounds like he had a horrible snare drum tightened up to fuck from what you're saying but not sure.

I find a lot of metal drum sounds pretty unlistenable to be honest, prefer the old Motown/Atlantic/Stax stuff.

St Anger is Pro Tooled to fuck, Ulrich just can't play any more, he is terrible, and the drum sound (snare drum esp) sounds like an horrendous sample.

Yeah i'm the same way, love the Motown drum sound, Atlantic soul, just the 60's and 70's in general had the best drum sounds. The 90's had some great drum sounds as well with the grunge era.

I agree on the metal drummer thing sounding so indistinguishable nowadays, it seems like it's a race to play the double kick drum at a 1000mph like this kind of stuff.

it's just shit.  Musicality always wins over technique.  Listen to the nerds lapping it up.  They wouldn't know a decent drummer if s/he shagged their mums.

So I took my first dip into gig promotion and helped organise a show in a venue close to my house, the gig was for John Murry and Cait O'Riordan (ex-Pogues and ex Mrs Elvis Costello). It was fantastic and we managed to break even actually a very small profit (all of which went to the artists). Cait and John had dinner in my house and John also stayed. After the gig he, my son, myself and some friends had a "pass the guitar" session until 6 AM. My son, jamming with John Murry was the best musical experience of my life, hands down. An Irish TV company made a film of part of it if anyone is interested...

Watching the Jonathan Ross show, this Craig David cunt wants shooting. He just sang the lyrics to one of his shite songs during the interview, Ross and the other three guests all looked like they wanted the ground to swallow them up.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm going through a Herbie Hancock phase at the moment, Thrust was on full blast last night, he is funkier than a mosquito's tweeter.

I need to get more of his 70s stuff, only got three albums at the moment (Thrust, Crossings & Sextant).
