Anyone know of any hip, cool camping festivals in the UK? Me and my mates went to Beacons last year and it was ace. It had the perfect mix of acts I'd pay good money to see, some with a bit of buzz behind them and then a lot of unknowns.. most of which ended up ace too.

It's not happening this year it's moving indoors and not taking place until October for some daft reason. Anyway we need somewhere else like this. Leeds/Reading is chronic and Glasto isn't going to happen so I'm not sure what other options we have? We were thinking Field Day or Parklife but neither have camping which is a big appeal for us

Ween are ace. I was introduced to them a few years ago while I was tripping. It was perfect.

Why just UK? You can go to one in Europe for cheaper. Loads in the Netherlands and the drugs are much better over here.

I am liking the look of this one in Athens myself

http://www.plisskenfestival.gr

Thee Oh Sees, Sleaford Mods, Mudhoney and loads more over 2 days on a beach for 50 euro.

Well this is for a group of us and one of the group has a fear of flying, but me and one of the lads want to do a festival abroad. What are some of the dutch ones called I should check out? We were looking at Rock en Seine in France.

That one in Athens does indeed look swell. Not sure how I'd cope with the heat, a British summer is too hot for me, but I'll tell my mate about it. I really wanna go somewhere Mac Demarco's playing. Saw him last year and it was the most fun I'd had at a gig in a very long time.

Would have liked to go and see Rodrigo Y Gabriela at Wembley Arena next month but that's been cancelled.

I believe they might be back later this year in this country, and for your sake I hope they do and you get a chance to see them. I went and watched them with the Mrs at the Manchester Apollo late last year and they were awesome.

I hate those cover CD's, they did one for Sgt Peppers and one that had Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You were here on the one CD and all three were utter gash.

Some albums just do not need covering do they?

I never listen to the bloody things to be honest, just thought some people might be interested.

I might give this one a whirl as it's my favourite LP.

Some of it is actually pretty good, notably when they aren't trying to copy Zeppelin, which is pointless really.

Exactly, thats my gripe usually, that the covers are too much like the original. It needs to be a whole new look at the song for it to resonate with me.

Hendrix doing "All Along the Watchtower" is a prime example.

The first couple of songs are almost straight copies of the originals & thus, shite in comparison, that Temperance Movement have murdered Houses of the Holy, but In the Light has some nice strings & stuff on this version, Down by the Seaside sounds more like Buffalo Springfield than Led Zeppelin & the boy has done a souly sort of cover of Ten years Gone, which I quite enjoyed.

Quite glad I listened to it although it's very hit & miss.

Maybe they'll do a The Lamb Dies Down on Broadway one next...

  • 2 weeks later...

Loving Curtis Mayfield's Curtis In Chicago live album atm. Fabulous setlist, although the recording is obviously dated and (at times) quite harsh, it still manages to capture the live magic.

I remember The Darts version of Duke of Earl from the 70's but this is the original Gene Chandler version recorded that night by Gene, Curtis and The Impressions. Just fantastic.

Just went to Amazon to buy that Curtis Mayfield album and it's £31. Fucks sake.

In other news, I'm a bit in love with Mavis Staples and her Only for the Lonely lp at the moment.

£31 ! Fakkin hell, it is a great record though.

Also loved the duet Mavis Staples did with Chuck D last year...
