So what car do you drive?

I'm ordering a VW Polo in the next few days. Spent yesterday test driving a few different cars.

Was tempted with the Audi A1 but it was just too small for us (zero legroom in the back for any passengers and the rear seats are too straight).

I had a go of the 1.4 TSI ACT Seat Leon FR and it was a lot of fun to drive. The same engine is in the VW Polo Blue GT which has a nicer cabin than the Leon so i've chosen that.

The Leon is obviously bigger being the next class up but I don't really need the extra space as there's only me, my partner and our 3 year old boy.

I need a second car as a run around. Probably gonna buy a city car, any recommendations (maybe try to get a good deal on the Up?)

Currently got a 1 Series BMW... 120d M thing. It's a weird one. Lovely car really, fast, economical (minimum 50mpg), got loads of bells & whistles, but there's something about it that just a bit......... shit.

Will be chopping it in next month and not sure what to go for. Tempted by a Q5 because I drove my mother-in-law's the other day and it was very nice, but that's a big change. Maybe the A-class Merc.

All its rivals are front wheel drive therefore have more space for rear passengers as well as a bigger boot. The car in that market segment I really like at the moment is the Seat Leon. You get more for your money compared to the equivalent Golf and it doesn't give the impression of the equivalent Skoda that the buyer only bought it because they couldn't afford a Golf.

The only problem with Leons is everyone has picked up on this and I now know more people with Leons than any other car.

I had a Leon FR for a while, the suspension was that hard if you drive over a coin you could tell if it was heads or tails. Ruined my hips.

I'm talking about the current range of Leons that have been around for about 2 years or so. I know the previous shape had the same ride issues as the Audis of that time but the most recent ones are very good in that respect.

If your driving one with the N47 engine I get rid sharpish. The timing chain is prone to snapping and anything not in warranty will leave you with about a £5k bill.

Chopped mine in for a 325i M. Best car i've had. Power delivery is sound.

It's my wife's car, and she LOVES Golfs... so I wouldn't be surprised if she went in that direction. I think they've actually got worse since the mk4. Although I did test drive an R32 a couple of years back which was immense. I want to have a go on an Audi S3

I'll have to look into that. It's a 2013 model but no idea what engine it is. The thing is rapid and we've no complaints about the car in general except that neither of us like it. Can't quite put my finger on what it is that I totally fucking hate about it. It's going to be sold anyhow.

Jules had an Up last week as a courtesy car and the fuel consumption was fucking ridiculously low. I'm sure he can tell you more though.

A good city car is the electric nissan leaf or if you want to be trendy, a renault zoe. Wife hardly does 10 mile a day 3 times a week if she's lucky when she uses her car (a zafira). It drinks fuel for fun. Tried to talk her into a leaf but she keeps going on about the range! You dont do an fucking range to be bothered I keep saying.

If you dont fancy leccie, the new focus with the 1 litre engine or fiesta also with the 1 litre engine and new renault twingo are capable cars. Id also look at the skoda fabia or the skoda equivalent of the Up!

What do people think of the Skoda Rapid?

They use the same parts as VW.

Its a very good car.

But I'd go for the Octavia. It looks like a saloon but is actually a hatch.

Skoda arent the joke they once were but having said that, the price has been steadily creeping up especially as you go up the range. The vRS is a flyer and they're bringing out a 226 bhp model soon!

The less input required from me to drive a car, the better. The two basic requirements are an auto box and cruise.

However, whilst in a courtesy car a few months ago, I came across ADAPTIVE cruise control. Now there's my dream option. I'm down the dual carriageway, adaptive cruise set to 74. The car maintains the set speed. Nothing new there. However a slower moving vehicle ahead in the same lane, causes the car to slow down to match the speed of the vehicle ahead, whilst maintaining a safe distance. It even puts the brakes on if needs be. And when the lane ahead is clear, it accelerates back up to the set cruise speed. How fucking ace is that? Now that's what I call driving.

The next car I get will be auto and have adaptive cruise. And it'll have that automatic parking thing that an Evoque I drove had. No turning the steering wheel, my hands can be more usefully engaged applying moisturiser whilst the car parks itself.

Modern driving. Happy days.

A while ago I post some picture of a Escort Mk1 Rally car at a showroom on my local plodding circuit.    Imagine my surprise when I see the same car on the beeb website...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-surrey-31733829

It's getting fucking ridiculous now. At least one a week getting stolen at the moment, the most annoying thing being it's motorsport people who will be stealing them.

A guy I know had his stolen from his farm a couple of months ago, found in Edinburgh with half the bits gone and half the shell cut out.

Getting to the point you dare not bring them out in case someone finds out where they are. My RS1600 is sitting in a shipping container and only 3 people know it's there. Absolutely no idea what I'm going to do in terms of parking up the Mk2 and the other Mk1 when I get them finished.

The BBC are plucking prices out of thin air in that article. That car is worth way short of 120 grand, it's not original enough to be worth that. My RS1600 is totally original as is one a friend of mine has, he was told by Coys to go with a reserve around 60k when he looked into auctioning it.

Our Zafira has been playing up a bit lately and a good friend has given us an 06 Mondeo Estate this week. It's in for an MOT today.

I've just drove from Cambridge to Speke today for the Zafira's last hurrah before we put it up for sale at the weekend and some Romanian twat working out of Hungary has smashed into me. Was just past the M6 toll, into the roadworks, 50mph limit. I'm in the middle lane doing 50, he's in the slow lane doing the same when he inexplicably pulls out and knocks me into the next lane. Then he pulled over right at the entrance to a junction. Fucking mong.

Turns out he couldn't speak a word of English so I had to stand around for 25 minutes waiting for the highways agency to turn up and get his insurance details. There's dents in every panel on the passenger side, scratches all down it and a bit of plastic trimming gone.

Fuming, man. Sore neck as well.
