The Dead Footballers Thread

I'm often shocked when I read about a footballer's premature death, especially when it's one I've seen play or signed in Football Manager, because it's such a vital profession.

This is a handy thread to keep track of all those players and ex-players who have left the building, because I'm fed up with hearing how such-and-such died years ago and I never heard about it at the time.

Ex-Charlton striker David Whyte died last week at the age of 43. In fairness, I probably remember him more than I ought due to reading Garry Nelson's excellent autobiography recently.

 

Also shuffling off this mortal coil last week was former Dinamo Kiev midfielder Andriy Husin, who was capped 71 times for Ukraine. I remember him from the 2006 World Cup, which doesn't seem that long ago.

Husin? I remember him from the Dynamo Kyiv side that had Shevchenko in it back in the late 90s. That team tore Arsenal a new one at Wembley in the Champions League but still never won the game.

Ilya Tsymbalar. Faboulous midfielder for Spartak Moscow and Chernomorets Odessa in the 90's. Died in December last year only 44 years old. Probably one of the best players ever not to play outside Soviet Union/Russia.

Bloody hell. Never knew that. I was on holiday in Spain when real signed him, and it was all over the sports news, which was the only reason why I knew who he was.

Blue in work told me that Kendal died the other week which had me puzzled until I realised it was the 12 month anniversary of his death.
