I'm often shocked when I read about a footballer's premature death, especially when it's one I've seen play or signed in Football Manager, because it's such a vital profession.

This is a handy thread to keep track of all those players and ex-players who have left the building, because I'm fed up with hearing how such-and-such died years ago and I never heard about it at the time.

Ex-Charlton striker David Whyte died last week at the age of 43. In fairness, I probably remember him more than I ought due to reading Garry Nelson's excellent autobiography recently.

 

Also shuffling off this mortal coil last week was former Dinamo Kiev midfielder Andriy Husin, who was capped 71 times for Ukraine. I remember him from the 2006 World Cup, which doesn't seem that long ago.
