Bringing two players on who during the close season were rightly written off as not good enough. Is worrying. Suso must be proper shit in training for Lucas to get on ahead of him. Unless we can go through the vast majority of the season without injuries, we are going to struggle.

Suso's problem is probably more to do with his contract situation.

With Can and Markovic, that bench looks infinitely better.

How good is it to finally have 2 quality fullbacks?  Manquillo and Moreno made a massive difference in this match, strange as it sounds to say that.  That penalty is something it would be so, so easy for us not to get if Manquillo just retreats after the ball goes back to the keeper.  If Johnson were there, no chance he wins that penalty.  And Moreno put a number of quality balls into the box as well, including the ball for Balotelli's goal.

Here's to having 2 good fullbacks again (plus a very capable backup for both sides in Flanagan)!

I was pleased we signed Lovren but I am a bit concerned with his play. He deffo was shitting it before their goal. He was jumpy when he had the ball and obviously wanted the whistle to blow as soon as. Now maybe he'll become less nervous with experience of playing for a team like ours, but he'll have to be quick about it. Think Moo was right about Lovren looking for the keeper to come and Ming shoulda told him to fuck off and stayed on his line. Anyway, let Brendan and Stevie tell the players what's what, I'm just relieved.

Mignolet was completely at fault for the goal, no question. The goal did highlight Lovren's main weakness for me. He's been done by players making runs off his shoulder several times already this season. It led to a goal tonight, and Aguero's goal against City. Against top strikers we'll get punished time and again if it isn't sorted out.

Really? I'm not sure. I like Can, but markovic looks out of his depth right now. Sturridge and Allen can't get back quickly enough.

Lallana is getting fitters d more involved, but conversely Coutinho has worryingly continued his poor form of the back end of last season. He's certainly not living up to his billing.
