A couple of people have said Bowie songs, but isn't everything by Bowie unrepresentative of Bowie? Sound and Vision has little in common with Heroes, has little in common with Starman, has little in common with Ashes to Ashes etc

He is usually a little more serious than Laughing Gnome though.

Iggy Pop - Real Wild Child.

Awful, poppy cover version.

i suppose you could argue that the Igster didn't really have many hits, but this horrendous piece of pap is nothing in comparison with wonderful tunes like "Fall in love with me" "The Passenger" or  "Loose".

I'm just looking at a list of UK No1s on wiki and would suggest 'Stay Another Day' by East 17. I don't remember much of their stuff but I'm pretty sure it was very different to this song. They were quite popular in the 90s but they didn't have another song stay at No1 for 5 weeks. I don't remember the singer's name but he was a proper chavvy cunt before chavs were even invented.

Don't recall it mate.  Released under his own name or Genesis era?

Blacked out at the wheel after overdosing on jacket potatoes.  You know how it is; "I only popped round me Mam's for the one. Next minute I'm waking up in traction with congealed butter in the corner of my gob".
