He's looking screwed, you don't cross Vincent. Allegedly a 600k transfer fee on a player who didn't exist? I'm assuming Tan has the evidence for irregularities as well as the bonus material they found?

You've got to love the LMA, defend one of their members at all costs, even racism and homophobia can be downplayed.

Obviously Malkys a bit of a plank but some of the outrage is laughable.

Some journo on talk sport this morning was all 3 of "horrified, disgusted and sickened" by the LMA statement.

You wonder how he would describe the Iraq/isis situation?

This sort of stuff never seemed to do Ron Atkinson any harm...

Speaking of which, whatever happened to him?

The papers have made sure he's tainted now. He might recover but it will take a while, and any errors will just be in the small print, not front page headlines.

However appalling the texts are, Cardiff knew this and ACCEPTED his apology and overlooked them. If they were truly all that horrified by them, they should have stuck to their guns and finished him off. They didn't. So (based on the limited info so far) they seemed prepared to overlook this stuff.

Yeah, no kidding. Only a fool would mess with Vincent Tan after this. He's sorting shit out Oldboy style.

Cardiff sacked him in Dec and the texts came to light in March. Tan bided his time and then leaked them when Mackay was just about to land another job.

BFR? QED

The texts appear to be a matter of record, although MM appears to be disputing the authorship of some.

Surely Cardiff DID finish him off by sacking him without compensation? (And Moody and MM withdrew their unfair dismissal claims)How did they over look anything.

All that has happened is that Palace took up references- and Tan told the truth.

Intriguingly, a few years ago I was chatting to the wife of a football manager whom MM had worked under, and she was unbelievably hostile towards him as a person, it appears now, with good cause.

Tanman is looking to take out the LMA now

The club’s former manager on Thursday apologised for sending text messages that were “disrespectful of other cultures” following a day in which the FA launched an investigation into allegations of serious misconduct by him and his former technical director Iain Moody.

The allegations of racist, homophobic and sexist messages, along with information about transfers at Cardiff, were sent to the FA in a dossier compiled by the club’s owner, Vincent Tan, prompting Moody to resign as Crystal Palace’s sporting director. The LMA exacerbated the issue in a statement on Thursday night by explaining Mackay “was letting off steam to a friend during some friendly text message banter”.

That statement has since been removed from the LMA’s website, while the organisation attempted to clarify the situation on Friday morning and apologise for “trivialising” serious issues. However, Cardiff say they feel “compelled to respond” with the body now “complicit” in the affair and insist Bevan’s position is now untenable.

In a statement released on Friday lunchtime, Cardiff wrote: “The LMA is the representative voice of managers, and whilst we understand it seeks to act in the best interests of its members, one of its major aims is to ‘encourage honourable practice, conduct and courtesy in all professional activity’. Regrettably, we feel that the LMA has done no such thing in its representation of Mr Mackay and Mr Moody. That the LMA has sought to criticise the club for the timing of the report to the FA is preposterous, because the offensive communications have been in the knowledge and possession of the LMA for many months.

“When the messages came to light, over three months ago, the club strongly encouraged and advised Mr Moody and Mr Mackay to deal with the issue directly with the FA. It was made clear to them, and their LMA appointed lawyers, that the nature of the communications meant the club was under a duty to report their findings to the FA if they did not take appropriate action themselves. Nevertheless, with the backing of the LMA, Mr Moody and Mr Mackay chose to do nothing. The LMA was therefore complicit in the attempt to conceal these messages (of which there were many more than the two isolated texts acknowledged by Mr Mackay).”

The statement added: “We also point out that the LMA members have a ‘code of conduct’ incorporated into their managerial contracts. One of the requirements is ‘a manager shall not use racist or other discriminatory language. A manager’s behaviour should demonstrate to players and other employees under his control that discrimination in any form is unacceptable.’ We therefore find it entirely reprehensible that the LMA should itself put out a statement which seeks to dismiss deeply offensive racist comments as ‘friendly banter’.

“If that is the view held by the LMA, as appears from its statement, we consider that Richard Bevan’s position is untenable and we call for his resignation.

It is standard practice for a new employer to write to the most recent employer for a reference.

The answer to your question is yes, and is quite different to two references you may offer yourself. My guess is that Palace may have been a little surprised by the names, addresses and telephone numbers of Jeremy Clarkson and Anelka given by Malky as character references...

Well, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree then, as I don't believe it's standard practice when the relationship between parties is so acrimonious.

If references were taken, then Palace wouldn't have employed Moody.

It's standard practice for the employer to ask the employee for references but in my experience, they never bother actually getting them

Sorry you are talking rubbish. Cardiff and Palace have been in dispute over the leaking of the Cardiff team sheet before a game last year,

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/aug/18/crystal-palace-fined-premier-league-cardiff-city-leak

Tan hates Mackey, Moody and the Palace chairman with a passion and felt slighted that the Palace chairman did not make a public apology when found guilty, he took revenge against all three before Mackey was due to be announced Palace manager.

There is no way Palace would have asked or recived a reference of Tan.
