Good choice by the club to move him on, as he simply isn’t good enough and/or suited to our style of play. Wish him all the best at his new club.

 

Hope we aim not to replace him as 4th choice, but rather go for a young player with potential but already good enough to challenge for a place in the starting eleven. Both Matip and Gomez have done well for spells, but both struggle to stay fit and let’s face it if Van Dijk got injured who knows what would happen. Need a new quality CB.

At the end of the day, Lovren's performance in that 4-1 drubbing at Spurs must have been what persuaded Klopp that Virgil was worth the £75m, so we can thank him for that, at least.

Gomez definitely played in the first team under Rodgers at left back.

I think it was the season straight after he'd been signed in the summer so he was probably about 18. Then he got injured badly pretty much as soon as Klopp came, as did Danny Ings around the same time I think.

I remember Ings getting injured as soon as Klopp arrived but have no recollection of Gomez!

I can't really recall the circumstances of having to play an 18-year-old out of position at LB (I think he was playing RB at Charlton?)  at the start of that season though - presumably Moreno was first choice and was injured or something. Or maybe it was just because Moreno was so shit.
