All three full backs other than Virgil tend to struggle when coming back from a longer spell outside of the team, he was very unfortunate that everyone else was shit too, and that it happened in a game which ended a 44-game unbeaten run. He and Matip were both horrible in the cup last time they played and Gomez wasn't too great before he finally settled into the team in December.

He needs to go and play in Serie A and defend a much smaller area of the pitch. No reason why he couldn't start for the vast majority of sides there, he just isn't good enough to play for us.

Well he was already at the Alitalia exit in the summer, as he was and clearly is fourth choice, useful earlier in the season when Gomez and Matip were either injured or out of form and Virgil was playing much better. He is a bit limited and not too clever.

I like Deeney's honesty. Post-match interviews would be a lot more fun if players basically called other players shite and that they took advantage of that.
