Obviously not to scale.  And to think you went to the trouble to draw it out.  How sweet.  When attacking, the CBs should push to be on or around the half way line, with the FBs slightly ahead.  When defending the FBs will return to a more traditional positioning, marking the opposition runners from deep.  The CBs will usually be much closer together, pulled out of position on occasion to cover from balls over the top of the FBs.  Which is why the system requires pace in all back 4 positions, and a deep lying CM who is adept at reading the game.

That's Benitez-Ball. It's gone. Get over it. (A system implemented with ZERO pace in all back 4 positions BTW).

Except Benitez never implemented it. Or at least not to any great effect.  And why would you try to implement a system like it with no pace in your back four?

Yeah right, because compactness, compression, full backs taking their attacking position from their defensive posture were all absent. OK!

As to why he implemented that thing, that you said he didn't implement, without pace. Maybe because his best defenders didn't have pace. Despite sightings, the mythical Hyypia with pace was never found. And it turned out to be redundant anyway because, if you make the pitch small, pace isn't critical.
