Liverpool's Mamadou Sakho facing fresh legal battle over doping verdict

An acrimonious legal battle between Mamadou Sakho and the World Anti-Doping Agency was looming on Monday night after the latter refused to rule out appealing againstUefa’s decision to clear the player of taking a banned substance.

Wada was facing being sued by Sakho and Liverpool over the extraordinary chain of events which led to the France defender being judged to have failed a drugs test and forced him to miss the Europa League final and European Championship.

On Thursday Uefa’s control, ethics and disciplinary body absolved Sakho of taking a performance-enhancing substance after a near four-month battle by the player to clear his name.

However, Wada has the right of appeal and, asked whether it planned to exercise that right, a spokesman told Telegraph Sport: “We are awaiting the reasoned decision as it relates to this one.”

The agency may need to overturn the verdict if it is to avoid legal action over its handling of a saga which threatens to shatter confidence in its ability to lead the fight against drugs in sport. Indeed, a source close to the case told Telegraph Sport that Wada must take “sole responsibility” for the events which culminated in Thursday’s outcome. “The way in which Wada managed this case is absolutely unacceptable,” he added.

So basically he's been warned to stop any potential legal action or face then banning him, blackmail really. You beat these fuckers.

Nice touch.

Mamadou Sakho has taken the No.3 shirt this season – and offered to reward any Liverpool fans left short-changed by his switch with a signed jersey.

The French defender has worn No.17 since joining the club in 2013, but will take over the jersey vacated by Jose Enrique for the 2016/17 campaign.

And as a gesture to those fans that have already purchased the 2016-17 home or away jerseys with name and number 17 on the back, Sakho has offered supporters the opportunity to have them signed.

All official 2016-17 season Liverpool FC shirts printed with ‘Sakho 17’ should be sent to Anfield by the September 1, 2016, along with a stamped self-addressed envelope big enough to contain your jersey.

It will then be signed by Sakho and returned to the supporter using the self-addressed envelope.

The club has strongly that recommended supporters send the shirts via recorded delivery as the club cannot accept responsibility for items lost in the post.

Free fat busting pills with every signed shirt.

Players change squad numbers. It just part of the game and part of the risk of getting a number on the shirt.

Nice touch by Sakho IMO.

In my opinion the shirts should be replaced. They cost enough, the club make enough. At the very least a decent refund or gift. Was a nice gesture, plenty would not bother.

Fair enough. I guess we disagree on who's responsibility it is. Maybe they could officially advise customers on the site that squad numbers may change and not to order shirts with numbers until the start of the season.

It'll never happen though. Money talks unfortunately, and they could never be seen to discourage sales, however honourable their intentions.

You mean like this from the official online shop.

Please note that custom printed merchandise cannot be exchanged or refunded.

Liverpool FC does not accept any responsibility for players transferring from the club or changing their squad number. Liverpool FC will not accept any returns or refund requests outside of our normal returns policy if a player is transferred or changes their squad number.

But yeah, nice touch by the player and if you went to all the trouble to get his name and number on your shirt you would surely be very happy to have it signed by him.

Ah, OK then. As stated I'm of the opinion that it is common sense not to get a name or a number while the transfer window is open, glad to see the club are at least reminding people of that, even though it's more of a disclaimer.
