Selling Sakho

  1. 1. Would it be a mistake to sell him?

It would be crazy in every way to play him.

probably. I'm guessing but couldn't we risk getting kicked out of the tournament given we are aware of the issue ? Most employees are suspended when they under investigation for gross misconduct. Why should it be different in football ?

I'm very disappointed.

We keep losing our best players and find ourselves back to square one, every summer the past decade. Even if we bring in a good replacement, he will need a couple of seasons to adjust.

As disappointing as this is, it's hardly a loss of Sami, Alonso, Gerrard or Suarez levels that we're talking about, is it?

Anyway, he'd be back by October or November if he got six months, if of course the club chose to keep him.

On the bright side, we won't get a transfer fee to waste on overpriced and unsuitable replacements.

Does anyone know the substance he's tested positive for? I know it's a fat burning substance but it doesn't say specifically what it is.

According to Marcotti and Paul Joyce referenced it,

oxilofrine.

Imagine we might become more familiar with the word oxilofrine in next few weeks #sakho

Just read some Toure stuff and the FA seemed surprisingly sympathetic. This is a snippet about Toure in 2011. Although Sakho will be Uefa but I guess they both follow wada guidelines.

The former Arsenal defender began taking the pills as he battled with what the FA described as “a misplaced perception that he is fat” which has dogged his career.

“The context is that for some years [Touré] has had a problem controlling his weight,” it was noted by Christopher Quinlan QC, chairman of the FA’s Regulatory Commission. “He has become obsessed by his weight and more particularly the appearance of his belly. The undisputed medical evidence [received by the FA] confirmed this to be the case.”

Touré insisted that he had sought reassurances both from the clinic which had provided the tablets and City’s doctor that the products were “fine for a footballer”. However, the FA report confirms some confusion over whether the pills had been checked by the club’s medical staff.

While Touré informed the panel that he had presented the tablets to Dr Jamie Butler on Jan 29 and been informed they were acceptable, Dr Butler recalled no such meeting, suggesting only that he had checked a bag of products made the chemist Herbalife.

Christopher Quinlan QC, who had headed the Football Association commission which banned Touré, said he was fully satisfied the defender "did not intend to enhance sporting performance or to mask the use of a performance enhancing substance".

Just to add if Sakho took oxilofrine that isn't what Toure took.

A female footballer got a 12 month ban  last summer for what it is alleged Sakho has taken.  I think Sakho is in deep deep shit with the authorities and his manager.

Syla tested positive after a match in the women's soccer league in May 2014. The analysis showed traces of two stimulants, ephedrine and oxilofrine.

The soccer player was also fined a total of 1820 Swiss Franc.

The Swiss is the 19'th athlete who has tested positive for oxilofrine, the same substance Asafa Powell was suspended six months for after a positive test in 2013. Syla is also the fourth athlete from Switzerland who has tested positive for this stimulant. Only two athletes has been suspended for one year after testing positive for oxilofrine. Nine has been suspended for two years.

Track and field is the sport with the most cases involving oxilofrine with six cases. Five cyclists and two weightlifters has also been suspended after testing positive for the stimulant.

236 athletes has tested positive for ephedrine. 50 of these has received a two year ban, while 55 has been suspended for only three months. 16, including Syla, has been suspended for one year.

US is the country with the most ephedrine cases with 26, while Sweden has 24. 18 athletes from Czech Republic has tested positive for the stimulant. Track and field is the sport with the most positive cases for ephedrine with 61. 50 cyclists and 21 swimmers has also tested positive for ephedrine.

Wonder what we'll do if he gets a 2 year ban? If he's on 100k a week then that's 10 million down the drain, but if they terminate his contract then we lose a £15 million asset.

Either way, we'll be needing a new Centre back to replace him.

If we terminate his contract there's every chance we sue him for breach which is what Chelsea done. They ended up getting around £15m back.

Hopefully it doesn't come to that.

Yes he is not Gerrard, because we've already let go (sold) Gerrard et al. But in the current team Sakho stood out in terms of quality (and fitness), along Sturridge(many want him out too).

We just can't keep losing our best players every summer. It takes us back 2-3 seasons needless the transfer fees wasted on shite replacements and an endless and expensive cycle of buying-offloading flops.

The doping violation changes everything.  It's hard to assess how good Sakho is because his very best form coincided with this scandal.  Prior to that, under Rodgers, he was injury prone and erratic at best.

His very best form coincided with the arrival of a manager who can organize a team correctly. Whether the substance he took had a positive effect on his form is only speculation.
