Selling Sakho

  1. 1. Would it be a mistake to sell him?

Fair enough.  As far as this season goes I think we look better without Sakho in the team, regardless of what happened at Man City.  He's now fourth choice and throwing strops, it's not exactly going well for him is it?  Or am I missing something?

Ok, but Lovren doesn't look to be doing that well either. To be fair to him though, he only just joined us, whereas Sakho was in a side that conceded lots of goals and finished second. I think there's only Sakho or Lovren to choose from as far as our left centre backs go. I don't know of a anyone else ahead of those two, so they're splitting the work load. They've both played four matches each (all competitions). Unless I'm missing something?

This is absolutely desperate stuff, Numero.

That's my point. It has become such a fudge of a forum lately that it wouldn't surprise me. If you can blame a goal on somebody putting the ball out for a corner, it's only a step away from something that that. As you say, desperate, Desperate times call for desperate attention seekers to keep starting threads about themselves or with silly jabs at the manager.

I would not be as confident and say that Rodgers can't be sacked. He needs to address the defence issue as it costed us the League Title last season and overall it (the defence is that) has been shite since he was appointed.

Kenny Dlaglish was sacked and Rodgers can be sacked as well. He is in his third season and he needs to improve our well documented weaknesses. You can't keep buying and selling defenders in the hope they will somehow click together into a sold backline.

Nonetheless, you can't blame the manager for the committee and the owners deciding to sell the best player in the World instead of building a team of top class players around him in order to challenge for the Premier League and the Champions League.

That sale had a domino effect, many new players came in and our whole system needs a new focus. It was bound to be a difficult season since Suarez was announced as a Barcelona player.

Edit: Lovren has 7 starts (all comps). Sakho 4.

It looks like Toure might be ahead of Sakho in the pecking order now?  I think the Boro match pissed off Rodgers.  Having to play extra time and endure 30 penalties wouldn't have gone down well, in my opinion.  Some of the players (Sterling) looked a bit jaded in the second half yesterday.

It's a very odd point.  Maybe Rodgers doesn't watch all of our games, because he wasn't slow to specifically mention Sakho's role in the build up to that goal.

That'll be the 'best' player who didnt want to start the season here, though.

Or last, perhaps we should have done better at scouting a replacement and not just crossing our fingers that Sanchez was interested, he wasn't.

Do you not comprehend the difference between a 2 to 1 vote and a unanimous vote!?

His role in it or his direct responsibility for it? It was Lov...

You know what. I can't be arsed. I'm flouncing from debates over Sakho with you. You've gone mad.

I don't think Toure is ahead of anyone in the pecking order as he's only had the one start. So Sakho doesn't have three players ahead of him. The Boro game didn't help anyone so I'm not sure that you can single out Sakho for the extra time and penalties after. He took his well, actually. I liked Toure's pen especially. But that aside, Sakho is still only up against Lovren as the LCBs competing for a starting spot from who has played so far. It still doesn't resolve the issue that I have with Rodgers regarding his defensive strategy, Sakho or no Sakho.

I guess we will find out in the next couple of games who the third choice CB will be unless they both make the bench? It looks like Skrtel and Lovren are set for a run of games together now, as was intended at the start of the season.  Sakho is in limbo a bit now.

Examples? You, Coro, Mark Coulter, Code, you lot make good bedfellows. A mixture of ignorance, arrogance and general stupidity. It's like the spastic trinity.

I think you are an outright cunt the way you talk to people numero.

You are however pretty much right about most things, except this where you are just wrong.

As a result your cuntishness shines through as you can't accept it.

Sakho is a liability, there is no defence for him.. Nothing.

Did he deserve to be dropped from the squad though? No absolutely not especially when a bigger clown takes his place.

Lovren was a brendan buy and Sakho was the committee, who's going to lose out for being shit? They have both been equally bad.

Brendan seems to hanging all the committee buys out to dry as a show of power to display how shit they all are.

Can only be the reason he played markovic yesterday in a game he was completely ill suited for.

I completely agree that the best way to build a winning side is to add to what you've got in terms of quality players. Saying that, it's completely ridiculous to suggest that the owners "decided to sell the worlds best player". He wanted to go the previous summer, and only signed the new deal in January with a cast iron get out clause. The club had little/ no control over his transfer. If you want to blame anyone, blame Suarez.

Be interesting to see how Sakho's Liverpool career goes from here. Cant remember the last Liverpool player to walk out of the stadium for being dropped, certainly shows a poor attitude and a lack of respect for his teammates.

He needs to knucle down on the training pitch and prove to the manager he has what it takes to nail a position down, whether he can do that im not sure. He has attributes to make him a very good CD, but there is always the nagging doubt when you watch him that a balls up is never far away.

Regardless of Sakho and his struggles though, serious questions need to be asked about the balance in this Liverpool side.

Rodgers has spent an astronomical amount on defenders and a goalkeeper but we look no nearer to having a settled defensive unit. And the lack of a specialised Defensive midfielder means they have little protection when we lose possession. So far on back 4 and Gk Rodgers has spent :

Mignolet  -  £9   Million

Lovren    -  £20 Million

Sakho     -  £18 Million

Ilori          - £7    Million

Toure      -  £ Free

Moreno   -  £12 Million

Manquillo - £Loan

Thats £66 Million pounds spent on the defensive unit as a whole, at somepoint if results and defensive performances dont improve, serious questions will need to be asked. The goals conceded column last season was masked last season by the excellent performances of Sturridge Suarez and Sterling. With that Mask taken away the defensive woes are there for all to see. With 2 games a week now for forseeable future there will be no hiding place. Its going to be a huge test of Manager and players and we will find out how good this side really is.

My biggest issue with the last two goals we've conceded is the midfield not collecting second balls. Lovren made a quality header yesterday but nobody is in midfield to pick it up. So, we either sort that out or we expect defenders to be able to head out to the opposition 18 yard box.

Accurate diagnosis. But Gerrard scored a free kick so it's obviously not his fault.
