World Cup 2014

Should of brought Ashley Cole and used the warm up games to get him fit, still comfortably England's best left back.

Mr Potato head on the left wing against world class opposition, what could possibly go wrong with that?

I am pretty simple minded, I accept that.

The decision to play Sturridge as the main striker, Sterling behind and Wellbeck to the right all seemed fairly reasonable to me. No-one is a square peg in a round hole until it comes to the left and Rooney. Why pick him there? What has he done to justify it other than have the name Wayne Rooney? Why not play a round peg there?

Ok, that said Woy has tried it and its obviously not working and he recognises it needs changing. Why the fuck he didnt leave the forward players in their positions and put on a player better suited and take Rooney off?

Its all about getting our best player (is he fuck) Rooney in the team and it doesnt matter how or the disruption it creates.

Assuming there are no injuries, Rooney has to be dropped against Uruguay.

Welbeck being on the pitch at all is a square peg in a round whole

On ITV, Dixon demonstrated how the way in which the England midfield was set up allowed Pirlo an incredible amount of space to run the game. Which he did.

Watching Ian Wright trying to grasp what he was saying was like watching a dog trying to grasp a card trick.

BBC Sport presenter Gary Lineker  Posted at 11:56

"Of the 14 teams we have seen so far, England had more shots on goal than any of them. Needless to say, conversion rate was not in the top 10.

"Even more stunning is that England's passing accuracy ranks second, just behind Italy, but ahead of Spain, Holland and Brazil. Go boys!

"Here's another beauty. For passing accuracy in the opposition's half, England come out on top. Stats exclude crosses where England are last."

So, great apart from the important bits.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at the straw-clutching.

surprised he didn't mention we've scored more goals than Argentina, Belgium, France and Germany put together so far!

Gerrard is wasted in this England team. He is not, never has been and never will be a Pirlo type player. Just sitting deep, pinging a few passes is a pointless role for him.

Compare Gerrard to Pirlo in the CL final in 2005. Their styles were totally different. You don't see Pirlo heading in goals the way Stevie headed that goal in 2005, you don't see Pirlo making lung-busting runs as Gerrard did to win that pen, and you don't see Pirlo making last ditch tackles the way Gerrard did in extra time in Istanbul. Trying to make Gerrard into something he isn't is not going to work out well.

Having said that, he still played better than most of his team mates in last nights game.

England will get at least a draw v Uruguay. That's pretty much al they will need.

wouldn't be so confident, if Suarez is fully at it he will tear that defence a new one, last nights result shows Costa Rica aren't just there to make up the numbers as well

No way will Luis be fit. If he was remotely fit he would have been thrown on against Costa Rica at some point. He will be totally unfit when he lines up against England and won't do much IMO. Might even aggravate his injury. Best for him to be sent back to Liverpool and get him fit for the new season.

Well, I'm pretty confident. Suarez won't beat England on his own, and he'll probably need to, while not being 100% fit to boot.

And, besides, Sturridge and Sterling are not to bad themselves. And Uruguay looked pedestrian at the back.

Don't like wishing injuries on players but it really would have been better for England if Rooney hadn't have recovered from his injury in time as England would have put out a balanced side with people who are comfortable in their roles. Look at Rooney's other WC games, is it more likely he will continue being a non entity or discover some form?

Yeah. Rooney is not as bad as some on here are making out but for the balance of that team, they either have to play him through the middle or drop him.

Is anyone else really concerned about Suarez? If he wasn't fit enough for 15 minutes then 5 more days will make fuck all difference. If he plays on Thursday that could be a disaster, torres was never the same after the 2010 world cup. Has there been any official word from the club about their involvement in this?

I think it's a worry. He'll be desperate to play and they'll be desperate to play him.

I don't think there is any permanent Torres like worry, more that he'll miss a portion of the season.
