With Vermaelen going to Barcelona, United and to a lesser extent Arsenal have a requirement for a left-footed central defender.  The former stand an increasing chance of becoming desperate for such a player to make Van Gaal's preferred formation work, and we've seen with Fellaini and Mata what they'll pay when their back's up against the wall.

Simple idea; would you take the risk of selling Agger to either if the price was temptingly north of our apparent £12M valuation?  Especially if you could screw one of the few players they want shut of that would be of use to us out of the deal, for example Kagawa in United's case.

I'd sell him to Arse if it was a very good offer if no other team abroad wants him.  There's no point keeping him.  How the fuck have they managed to get rid of Vermaelen who's either been shit or injured for the last 3 or so years.  I know Agger has his injury worries but at least when he's fit he's good.

No. He wouldn't accept going to Utd, and the chance that he'd be decent for Arsenal would be too great. They've got no attacking players they'd let us have, and the thought that he might end up nabbing fourth with them at our expense would be too much to bear.

If it was City though, and Jovetic had a chance of coming the other way, I'd say it was worth considering.

I'm the same with United, it's an interesting one to weigh up because I can see us just letting him out with someone paying his wages, but even if United were to offer something like £20M you still couldn't do it (obviously completely hypothetical, and agree with BBN that he wouldn't move to them).

Arsenal likely wouldn't be desperate enough to make it worthwhile considering.

He'll go to Napoli on loan, Benitez loves that old team.

If an offer to sell him isn't there we should keep him so we have 4 strong options at the back, but from his point of view wanting first-team and ours to save more wages it won't happen.

The United scenario is an interesting one, i guess it depends on the player. I wouldn't be opposed to selling them deadwood like Martin Kelly, Sebastian Coates, Jack Robinson, Peterson, Aspas, Alberto and Brad Jones (not that they'd be interested mind) but it'd be like sabotaging them from the inside.

Even then i'm questioning whether we should even do that, probably best to just keep it as it is, no movement between either club, full stop, at any level and i certainly wouldn't sell them Agger.

It's hard to predict what we'll do with our CBs.

Last year I was sure one would be shipped out when we added Toure, Ilori and Sakho, so as much as I think Agger may be on the outs, I wouldn't be shocked to see him staying, at least until January.

I think he'll go out on loan with Illori and we'll start the season with Sakho, Lovren, Skrtel and Toure. Although most people expect the partnership to be Sakho and Lovren i think it'll end up being Lovren and Skrtel.

Don't get me wrong, I'm aware its heresy to even suggest it, especially for the vice-captain and someone who if he knew he was first choice almost certainly wouldn't want to leave the club for anyone, such is his loyalty.

Its pretty much just Saturday morning got ten minutes spare bored musings, but I did think the other day when Vermaelen to Barcelona was announced as a fee having been agreed, those two will be on the lookout for the type of player we apparently want to move on and have no obvious buyers for.

I hear you Boss, Johnson to United would be like lending them a car with no brakes, but even still, its just a no isn't it.
