Summer Transfers 2014

The Mancs problems are in central midfield and defence. Signing him for that much without addressing their problems is a bit fucking stupid.

Di Maria played in central midfield for Madrid for most of last season, and did so brilliantly much of the time, unfortunately.

I like Di Maria, but to me this mimics the Ozil signing. I'd be much more worried about them if they'd signed Fernando Reges, two world class centre backs, and a natural leader.

This is obviously bad news. Di Maria is top class. His assist record is as good as any player, probably ever. With a natural finisher as good as Van Persie in front of him, it's going to be a very good transfer.

The eye watering price tag is the only question mark. He's good like, but fuck me, that's a big outlay. Argies don't have the best conversion rate over here.

Still, it improves them massively.

The cunts.

Di Maria's assist record was artificially inflated by mainly passing to Ronaldo. As was Ozil's.

Good signing, but I'm not overly worried by it.

Fair point. 60 goals a season have to come from someones foot before it gets to Ronaldo.

Is he good enough for that amount of money? Not for me, but he's still a great player.

It's a stupid buy for £55 million and i hope they go through with it, it'll create a bluster in the first few months with pundits and the media hyping them to death as title challengers but the bravado will dissipate when the results start going against them, and they will, with a central defence consisting of Smalling, Evan's, Jones and some kid from the academy.

There's also the fact that Di Maria is an unknown quantity in terms of the premier league, so there will be a learning curve there in terms of the pace of the league, but also the change of personnel. I'd rather they spent it like this than on Vertonghen and Vidal, two players that would strengthen their weakest areas.
