Look I’m just gonna say it. I can take the abuse. That Gavin & Stacey episode on Xmas day was brilliant. I can’t stand Corden one bit but Pam & Mick, Rob. Brydon and Dawn & Pete are great. I was dreading it. I ended up loving it.

I loved it. We’re now watching it all again from series 1

The Patient, with Steve Carell and Gleeson's boy, by the duo who created The Americans.

8.5 / 10. I'd give it a 9 (only God gives 10s) but it isn't an easy watch and requires a patient viewer (see what I did here?) so it fails a bit on the entertainment front, which isn't unimportant.

In all other aspects (writing, directing, stupendously good acting) it is very, very good, by the current lowered bar TV standards, I'd be almost calling it brilliant. It helps that I stumbled upon it by accident and it seems to be somewhat overlooked and underrated (after watching it, 7.0 on IMDB feels like an insult and proves we live our lives surrounded by idiots).

For me, probably the best TV I've seen since Succession.

Is this mini series? I'd not heard of it and just seen it was out in 2022 and only has one season.

It was great, once you'd got over how much older some of the cast looked, it was thoroughly enjoyable and very funny. I wish Larry Lamb was my Dad.

Beastgames. My young son asked me to watch this with him

Christ. Some twat off youtube does some stuff which demonstrates the worst of humanity on every level.

That we have sunk to this.

It makes me yearn for the blessed release of death

Exactly the same situation. It’s utterly fucking wank.

Blackbird.

Bit late to this one as only recently got Apple TV.

Really good mini series, Taron Egerton is really good as a convicted drug and gun runner given the chance to reduce his sentence if he can befriend and coerce a confession out of potential serial killer Larry Hall.

Whilst Edgerton is good, he's completely overshadowed by the performance of Paul Walter Hauser playing Hall with unerving innocence and menace.

8.5/10.

I've watched the first 4 episodes of Dexter Original Sin now. I'm really enjoying it. My only worry when I started watching, is what story they're trying to tell - we'd seen so much of younger Dexter and his backstory in flashbacks in the original series, you didn't know how they could create tension and make it interesting. But I've found it great viewing so far.

It reminds me a bit of when a favourite band does an album release of some stuff that was left behind after the album cut and it turns out it's not shite, but is a match to the actual release. It's got a lot of the humour of the first few seasons and I thought I would hate the deb character, but I think I'm going to like her. 8/10.

Secret Level - 4/10. From the makers of Love Death & Robots. Short stories based on popular video games. Apparently. Because outside of Pac-Man, Warhammer, and D&D I didn’t know any. Some to talent voicing some of the characters - Arnie and Keanu show up to put in 10 mins work. Most are not that good, mainly as they’re constrained by their game world. However the Pac-Man one was an attempt to do something different. The Spelunking one was fucking annoying.

Not a patch on Love Death & Robots which is much lore original and Fred from constraints.

Narco Circus - 7/10. A documentary exposing the links between the Mexican and US Governments, the DEA, and the Cartels. The first episode has footage from the cartels murdering and executing customers at a bar. Little kids cowering under tables as they use handguns to finish what they started with their AKs. These cunts like El Chapo aren’t anti-heroes, they’re massively evil cunts who deserve a painful and lingering death.

I've just finished The Penguin. I can't say I was that fussed on it. Maybe my expectations here were too high after some of the hysterical comparisons to the sopranos in the early reviews. The sopranos it is not. But it was well made, the acting was good in parts, less good in others but the storyline felt a bit thin, even though it seems like they killed everyone off. 6.5/10. Don't rush to make season 2.

Edit... And cristin milioti by the way, fucking hell. 9.5/10.

Yeah, I feel the same. It started brilliantly but overall it was pretty average.

I definitely enjoyed the opening episode. It started to slow down from there for me. I got stuck after episode 2 for a while and started episode 3 about 3 times as it couldn't keep my attention. It was ok, but you feel if they don't use IP (and the money) of the batman universe, that story doesn't carry itself as a standalone gangster series.

It was just very samey and the villains weren't compelling enough for me.

Ha. I couldn’t finish it, I did 2 episodes and had to stop there, I couldn’t sit through any more interviews with main guy.

Did Squid Game 2 while hungover of the 27th.

It’s Ok. More of the same but at a slower pace. 7 episodes could easily have been decided to 4/5 and it’d have been much better.

Ultimately, it’s just setting it all up for the final 7 episodes next year.
