Thought I'd start watching True Detective seeing as the last episode is tomorrow night. It's very good again, but at the moment I'm finding it utterly infuriating- three time lines, one of which has the old guy seemingly in the onset of Alzheimer's is fine, I love that shit. But I'm finding it almost impossible to hear what he's saying half the time.

It's not so bad on the Sky box/ TV with subtitles, but the missus has some friends round tonight, and trying to watch episodes on that piece of shit Sky Go 'app' on my PC is fucking torture. It doesn't even offer subtitle support, never mind any of the other QoL features that Netflix and Amazon Prime do. Having to sit through adverts, or type out this post while they're playing, is the icing on the cake. Sky are absolutely fucking miles behind the other streaming services at the moment. I did have a look around at various streaming sites, but none of those had subtitles either, just better quality video...

I'm finding more and more shows too much of the dialogue is difficult to hear and understand. And I just can't be arsed with subtitles.

I’ve heard this complaint about dialogue from a good half dozen people on here, so it’s clearly a real issue. I don’t have that issue myself, but knowing there’s a bunch of fuckers watching a TV show in their native language, but squinting to see the subtitles both amuses me and scares me because I know it’s going to happen to me soon.

Do you people use headphones? You can easily set up headphones for up to two people watching and I found out many years ago it was a massive improvement with the dialogue and sound in general.

And you better get used to subtitles because there is more and more great TV not in English. Not to mention you are missing out on most of film classics.

I don't use headphones, but I shouldn't have to.

As for subtitles, I'm more than happy missing stuff if it's done in another language, there should be more than enough for me to watch in English. Watching TV shouldn't feel like I'm working. Something like Narcos is about as far as I'm willing to go and I find that too much. If that was a slightly less good show, I wouldn't bother with it.

I can’t be arsed with subtitled stuff. I’ve only watched a handful of foreign language films and have never bothered with a television series. Happy to miss out.

Maherashi Ali’s accent is hard to understand, lot of mumbling etc. Find this series very slow indeed.

Finished Unbrella Academy last night. 8/10. Despite a slow start i really enjoyed it. Good soundtrack and quirky, some bits reminded me of that channel for show Utopia.

Robert Sheehan basically plays his character from Misfits and the big guy that played Ed Kemper in Mindhunter is good as the hitman alongside Mary J Blige. Obviously set up for a second season.
