Anyone who says otherwise touches children in bad places.

Exactly. I think. I don’t know. I’m confused.

It took me a little while to warm to it as someone who had read the books first, but it felt like it was just starting to settle and get into it's stride when it was cancelled.

Not worth bothering with then?

No, I enjoyed it. Was pretty disappointed that it got cancelled.

Just took me a while to accept the guy playing Hap as the character because he was very different to how I always pictured him.

The plummy gobbed James Purefoy doing a deep South US accent was pretty bad,but the series overall was quite good if slow at times.

Night Stalker: The hunt for a serial killer.

New Netflix documentary, this time about Richard Ramirez and his killing spree in 80's Los Angeles. Two episodes in and it's good. Gotta say, I love a good serial killer doco.

8/10

I finished it last night. I found it a bit dull to be honest. I hated the point where the cop who got the name of the killer by threatening to beat someone up, it just felt false bullshit.

I enjoyed it. I think the thing I liked most, it was unlike a lot of stuff that's on the TV today, it felt almost like something decent the BBC would have done 30 years ago.

Any kids who liked the MCU films is gonna have hit a brick wall pretty quickly with the first two episodes. If you're aware of the sitcoms it's parodying then it's quite clever but yeah, if this was a movie those eps would be 10 minute scenes maximum.

Don't fall for the "our show is really a 6 hour movie" shite, Marvel. That path leads to the dark side.

Hinterland is good "3 seasons" it is a bit similar to the 70s cop/detective shows were the guilty person owns up at the end of each episode. Every episode has the main character running after someone in the dark with a torch. Apart from that it's a decent watch.

6/10.

Agreed - if you've never seen I Love Lucy then that first episode is awful. There is just enough weirdness to keep me watching (and Elizabeth Olsen in the magician's assistant outfit, that helped no end).

We watched Back To Life on Netflix last night. It’s a BBC Three show from a year and a half ago about a woman who comes out of jail after 18 years. It was pretty good: funny and dramatic at the same time. Apparently there is a second series coming soon.

I’m 39 and hit a brick wall quickly with it.

I didn’t like either episode at all.

If you're not familiar with shows like The Dick Van Dyke Show, I Love Lucy, Bewitched and others then I'm not surprised. It was a lot of 'stuff' but no progression of plot and unlike anything Marvel has tried before.

This wasn't meant to be their first effort though, that was Falcon and Winter Soldier but that got delayed and I assume it'll be a lot more straightforward.

A wider point is these shows being called TV series when they seem to me to be extended movies and limited one and done series. There's no second series of WandaVision coming so maybe Disney+ movies are a better plan. Then we wouldn't get 55 minutes of classic sitcom parodies, with the '80s up next.

It seems an odd route to go down when the average Marvel fan (or person < 60) will have zero idea about the references.

Yeah, I don't disagree. I can't fault them for trying something different from normal but maybe not have three episodes of your TV show be about classic TV sitcoms. Hopefully it doesn't mean they're falling into the Netflix trap of not enough story for the running time.

i always get the impression when i am in america, everyone of every age knows those shows. Obviously they don't exist as part of popular culture really here.

If you're under 30 then I think it's less likely. Over here? As you say, it's not part of the culture.
