Food Banks

On the Panorama programme two of the people they followed were a young ex-drug addict and a woman who was working 2 jobs to make ends meet. She lived in her 3 bed council house which she didn't want to leave because of the memories it held so was paying the spare bedroom tax.

By the end of the programme they'd both found jobs and were no longer using the food banks. Why do you think the programme makers chose them, surely they'd follow quite a few people and if the point was to show how things weren't getting better they'd have chosen people still in trouble? Or am I reading too much into it?

How many liberal mps voted against the welfare cuts, the bedroom tax and voted against the lowering of the 50p tax rate?

The Conservatives have not been given a democratic mandate to force through these policies on their own.

Yes, "my" government, all mine. They do everything I tell them, don't you know.

The country did not give the Conservative party the mandate to slash Welfare, introduce the bedroom tax and cut the top rate tax from 50% to the counties most affulent. it was all done with the aid of the turncoat bastards lib dems.

History will surely deem the lib dems as " an utter bunch of cunts".

Not sure that history will judge these little rats as victors.

This place is obviously far more left wing than across the UK as a whole, but surely at the next election people will just vote Tory or Labour, with the turbo mongs voting UKIP. Who votes Lib Dem in 2015? Students? Hippies? I don't think so. Who haven't they fucked off out of their typical core vote? Who isn't better represented by another party?

I don't want to vote labour but I will because I don't want Tory. That's shit that. I want a party that puts people first. Not just workers but people and when people are employed they are protected. I want zero hours fucked off. I want the right to tribunals made easier. I want workfare destroyed if their is a job there to employ people on a scheme for 40 hours a week then its a job that can take someone on full time. I want the minimum wage raising and by quite a bit more than 2 percent. I want banks regulating too with in an inch of their lives and a transparency involved. I want bankers business men and politicians to be prosecuted and jailed when they through greed make decisions that cost everybody else.

I want a government that actually has some bollocks and integrity. I want serious rent controls and a maximum on how many properties you can own and anybody who tries to circumnavigate those rules to face heavy consequences. There's certain shit I don't want people to make a fortune on and that's the nations health service and houses. Not the building of houses but people buying them all up and renting them all out having monopolies on homes. I want the disabled looked after, I don't want people with little lifespan to spend their short time forced working. Lots of shit I want I know isn't possible. Lots of shit takes compromise because there isn't a magic wand where everyone gets their way but fuck me it would be nice to see some real choice.

Labour piss me off more than any other party because I think they should be the party I fit but they aren't. They're are in the pockets of the same people the Tories are. When I read recently how they will remove the exclusivity of zero hours I thought you fucking shithouses. The very minimum they can do is all they offer because they don't represent the working man. They will get my vote because I know for a fact the Tories don't represent me and none of their voters resemble me unlike a lot of labour supporters who do. Any other party that might fit me more just won't get any media attention giving them my vote is like voting Tory. Where are we heading do house prices and the cost of living go up forever will we eventually have one company that's bought out all the rest, we have our employee number and when you are no longer useful you are outcast.

I shall be spoiling my ballot paper.  I would advise others to do the same.  If the number of spoiled papers is greater than the number of papers for all the political parties, this would send a message that cannot be spun away.  It would show politicians up for the irrelevant, self-serving, unprincipled, dishonest trumpets of spunk that they mostly are.

Really? Sometimes the story gets re written, Wasn't Stalin a victor? Chairman Mao? The coal board in the Aberfan disaster etc? News International? Steven Lawrence inquiry?Etc etc etc.

" people can't be arsed" really? Is that what you believe? You must be living in a different country to me, or go talk to the ones suffering.

I take your point about the message board but the rest of your post is bollocks.

Yeah, I must have missed all the strikes, riots and industrial action in response to the worst attacks on pay, conditions, the NHS, public services and living standards in recent memory. I look around and see political and social activism everywhere, especially at universities and among the arts and music scenes.

I must have imagined the rising resentment towards people on benefits and the fact the Lib Dem-backing Guardian is considered 'left wing', while Labour MPs have been instructed not to get involved in benefits or immigration debates because the party claims it has 'lost the argument', and where the election battle lines it's drawing are not about banks or rising poverty, but the 'squeezed middle' having less bang for their buck.

The Tories could conceivably win the next election despite inleashing the kind of hell we all knew they would. People's concerns extend to their own garden gate and no further. It's not bollocks at all.

As for history being written by the victors, so is the present, everything has a narrative, a story, and the country's is written by the right wing, middle class dominated media, whoever has the media tells the story, be it benefits street or wealth creating trickle down economics, or Gordon Brown 'maxing out the credit card' and the Tories bringing 'strong and stable' government and making 'the hard decisions'.

At a guess, liberals and democrats?

But finding people who think freedom and democracy are rather good things is difficult at the best of times.

People's freedom to vote did not give the tories a mandate to slash welfare and give tax cuts for the rich. The liberals helped push the tories extreme measures without so much as a murmur.

At the next election the lib dems will be judged accordingly.

I think you are right about the first part and wrong about the second. The Tories policies have had a massive impact on large swathes of the population but I suspect most of those affected will not be natural Tory voters. As for people's concerns for others I think that when people are struggling they will naturally look after their own before looking to help anyone else. So for many people I think it will be a moral balancing act. High minded socialist principles and ideals against their own circumstances.  I think, in our society, most people are kind and generous if their circumstances permit.

As for your last line, I think that is precisely how the next election campaign will pan out. Tories will basically adopt the stance that they are turning the ship around slowly so, having taken five years of pain, can the country risk undoing all their "good work" by electing Labour. Unsurprisingly they are already talking about a pre-election "Look it IS working" tax cut to nudge any doubters in their direction. Every month that unemployment falls does the same (not that I am saying unemployment falling is bad). Unfortunately for Stronts, I see the Lib Dems getting slaughtered the length and breadth of the land. I don't see UKIP doing much other than nicking votes off all of the other parties. I cannot see then winning a seat. For me it is a three horse race Tories, Labour and apathy.

More proof out today, the govt sending people to foodbanks, which they had previously denied. Nick Clegg and the rest of the wishy washy turncoat lib dems should hang their heads in shame for letting these bastards send people to practically beg for food in this day and age.

Nonsense. Utter drivel.

Finding people who can tell the difference between actual freedom and the freedom allowed to you by your wallet, now that's a much harder find nowadays. Especially on the yellow team.
