Half-time 1-0

We've been slightly the better team, apart from the, y'know, "scoring" bit of the game. Woltman and Bearne have had good chances, Musialowski has looked quick and direct in possession, Koumetio has dealt with just about anything in the air, and we haven't been bullied out of the game as often happens to us in this competition.

What were the age profiles of the two teams, roughly speaking?

In terms of starting lineups; they had five players aged between 23 and 36 (!), the rest were 19 or 20; we had two 20-year-olds, three 19-year-olds, five 18-year-olds and a 17-year-old; having to replace O'Rourke (19) with Musialowski (17) after less than fifteen minutes wasn't helpful in that respect. Our other substitutes are currently 17 and 16 respectively (both with birthdays this month).

Thanks for the info. Mostly men against boys which seems to be the problem with our most promising older prospects out on loan.

The competition is failed experiment. The lower leagues should get their trophy back as a knockout.

This. Every time I see one of these games, it's a mis-match in terms of physicality and nous. Doesn't help that most of our better players are on loan or away on international duty. Our kids might learn a lot, but as a competition it's flawed.

Its a pointless competition and sets up the kids to fail. A decent reserves league would be better
