Liverpool 3 Mancs 1

The lead is increased. Jack Bearne's fine form in front of goal continues.

Koumetio was earlier taken off on a stretcher following an awkward fall when going up for a header. He was replaced by Balagizi with Tom Clayton moving alongside Rhys Williams in the middle of the defence.

Fulltime - Liverpool 3 Mancs 1

This win ensures that we finish above the Mancs in the PL2 table. We can finish 4th if Spurs drop points in either of their 2 remaining fixtures.

Spurs have to play Brighton tomorrow and then they finish their campaign with a game against Chelsea - a game that Chelsea need to win to avoid relegation.

The much vaunted Chelsea academy? Going downhill since they got caught breaking FIFA rules?

The 23s did end up finishing 4th in PL2, which given the start of their PL2 campaign is not too bad a finishing position.

Chelsea scored 2 late goals to beat Spurs 2-1 earlier today to keep themselves in PL2 and in doing so secured our 4th place finish.

Some feel-good news from the 18s today as Tom Hill made his return to playing after over 18 months out through injury.

Offal

The 19-year-old played his first game since September 2020 after a serious knee issue was followed by difficulties with his shin and back.

And the Formby-born player made the most of his comeback at the Kirkby Academy, scoring a typical goal just before half-time as he arrived into the box to finish a good cross from Isaac Mabaya.

That brought the Reds back into the contest at 2-1 and they then dominated the second period.

Hill, who made a first-team debut for Liverpool in December 2019, almost grabbed a second before departing after an hour, having come through the test well.

At full-time he shared a warm embrace with Academy lead physio Paul Kelly and his staff, the team who have played such a huge part in his rehabilitation.

On the pitch, Oakley Cannonier finished off a superb Harvey Blair cross to make it 2-2 and then grabbed a winner in the last minute following a perfect through ball from Luke Chambers.
