Is Morton more highly rated than Clarkson? I remember Klopp sort of compared Clarkson to Lahm.

I think Clarkson's more expansive in his play, but Morton might be more equipped physically. Clarkson's size and relative lack of pace is what might hold him back. Like, Chirivella would be a good watermark for him to reach at the moment, let alone a real first team option.

And I say that as a fan of his. Smart player.

I wouldn't say one was more highly rated than the other, but rather the expectancy of what each player could develop into was/is viewed differently.

Pidge's summary above is pretty much how I see things. Leighton is always going to be a playmaker of sorts, whether that be deeper in the midfield or in behind a striker as Blackburn have tried this season remains to be seen, though we have of course seen him operating more as a deep-lying playmaker for the 18s and 23s as he came through our ranks.

Tyler on the other hand initially broke through into the 18s as more of a box-to-box type, who has moved into the deep-lying role in midfield for the 23s as the current midfield options at that level are lacking. In the games for the 23s that Tyler played alongside Cain and Clarkson, it was Leighton who played the deeper role with Tyler assuming the box-to-box role.

My own personal view on Tyler is that he is certainly more suited to a box-to-box role, but can play the deep-lying position equally well. I think him playing in the deeper role for the first team at the moment is sensible given the step up in intensity that the box-to-box role demands when playing in our first team.

Leighton on the other hand is for me, more of a specialist in the deep-lying role, and while he can play a box-to-box role, it doesn't suit him as much as it suits Tyler and we wouldn't see the best of Leighton in that role.

Thanks for a detailed answer, mate.
