If we win tonight, we'll be top of the table - probably not for long, since MUFC have two games in hand ( both against Citeh), Chelsea have two more games to play after tonight, and Citeh can mathematically catch us if they win the four games they have left, but...

Finished 4-4.

Josh Murphy scored a 9 minute hat-trick to level the game at 3-3 after 69 minutes. We then took the lead again in 76th minute when Ojo converted a penalty that seen Norwich reduced to 10.

Josh Murphy would later grab his fourth of the game in the 82nd minute to complete the scoring on the night.

The result means we cannot win the league, no matter the results in other games.

FlashScores had not updated the scorers correctly for Norwich. Josh Murphy only scored a hat-trick, as Norwich's second was scored by Morris, according to the offal anyway.

Offal Report

Liverpool U21s capped off their Barclays Premier League season by playing out a thrilling 4-4 draw with Norwich at Anfield at Monday evening.

Jordan Williams, Ryan Kent and Cameron Brannagan had combined to give Michael Beale's side a commanding 3-0 lead at half-time, but they were dragged back in the second period by the spirited visitors.

And, though it looked like Sheyi Ojo had got the youngsters off the hook when he converted a late penalty, there was more drama to come as Josh Murphy completed his hat-trick to steal a point for the 10-man visitors.

With Jerome Sinclair out of action after featuring for the first team against Chelsea on Sunday, Samed Yesil returned to the starting line-up in the centre-forward position.

Danny Ward and Dan Cleary also claimed places in the XI as Ryan Fulton and Lloyd Jones, who featured in the 4-3 defeat to Chelsea's U21s last week, made way between the sticks and in defence respectively.

Prior to kick-off, a minute's silence was held at Anfield as a mark of respect for the 56 football supporters who lost their lives in the Bradford City fire 30 years ago.

But that well observed tribute did not hamper the intensity of the start of the game, as both sides broke forward with purpose in the opening seconds.

The best of those bursts came from Harry Wilson in the tenth minute as he drew a foul at the edge of the visitors' box following a purposeful run from his own half.

Unfortunately, the subsequent free-kick was fired straight into the wall as the Canaries were let off the hook.

Yesil then failed to capitalise on another good run from Ojo, with the German unable to collect a pass that fell just behind him in the area.

Norwich did not allow the hosts to run away things, however, and soon created two big chances of their own.

Jacob Murphy narrowly failed to get on the end of a brilliant cross from his twin brother Josh from the right-hand side before Carlton Morris inexplicably hooked the ball over in the face of an open goal after Ward had parried.

And the Reds took full advantage in the immediate aftermath, as Williams found space at the back post to smash in Cleary's flick-on from a Kent corner.

The visiting team rallied again after going down but, with 25 minutes gone, they were undone by a moment of sheer quality and found themselves 2-0 down.

Wilson picked the ball up in a central position before working space on his left foot and from the Welshman picked out Kent with an eye-of-the-needle pass.

The forward's run was perfectly timed and the finish, which went in off the far post, was just as good.

Norwich continued to show endeavour and push forward despite the state of the game but the hosts' lightning pace on the break meant they were always in control.

And even when the visitors appeared to have slowed yet another rapid counter from their own corner with ten minutes of the half remaining, Brannagan simply smashed in from 25 yards to put his side 3-0 up.

Goalkeeper Ward had been a virtual spectator for much of the opening 45 minutes but had one chance to evidence his quality before the half was out and took it,as he brilliantly kept out a close-range shot at the death.

The Reds showed no signs of slowing down after the break, with Ojo joining Kent and Wilson in breaking from the middle, while the latter went close with a deflected effort from distance.

But a remarkable comeback was on the cards, and it began on the hour-mark with a well-worked goal.

Josh Murphy latched onto a beautifully weighted clipped pass over the top and, after giving himself space with an excellent touch, he smashed home powerfully beyond a helpless Ward.

Moments later, a deflected cross from the left-hand side found the hosts' defenders on their heels and Morris was there to tap-in and bring the game back to life.

And, incredibly, things were set to get worse for the young Reds, as Josh Murphy latched onto the ball after his sibling Jacob appeared to have wasted a one-on-one chance and tapped into the open net.

The visitors were making all the running after grabbing their unlikely equaliser but yet more twists awaited.

The relentless Ojo worked an opportunity to shoot after yet another fine Liverpool break and, with the keeper beaten, Reece Hall-Johnson handled on the line to keep his team in it.

The referee rightly pointed to the spot before sending the defender off and Ojo coolly kept up his part of the bargain by dispatching the penalty to the delight of the Kop.

But still, the visiting side would not relent, with Josh Murphy smashing home from a tight angle to secure a treble and level the game up for the final time.

The result leaves the Reds second in the league, though they could fall further if other sides' remaining games go against them.

Yesil at the double as U21s hit six

Samed Yesil scored twice as Liverpool U21s produced a superb display to beat Waterford United 6-0 at the RSC Ground on Friday night, writes Fat Ste, not jealous about not being in Australia, no way, nohow.

Jack Dunn fired the young Reds into the lead before Northern Ireland international Ryan McLaughlin made it 2-0.

Yesil then saw a penalty saved before Sergi Canos made it 3-0.

Sam Hart also got on the scoresheet before Yesil fired a double to complete the rout.

The game was played in front of a capacity crowd and Waterford United were perfect hosts.

Reflecting on the performance, U21s boss Michael Beale told Liverpoolfc.com: "It was a fantastic evening and for our first game of pre-season we had some very pleasing moments.

"There was a good crowd and it was lovely to be so well received and we were delighted to put on a good performance for the supporters.

"In the first-half Waterford did really well and gave us a good game, and in the second-half we had a lot of pace in our attack with McLaughlin and Canos in the wide areas. We were at a good level and we will only get better.

"It was great to see Jack score and he also hit the bar twice with two fantastic 30-yard efforts.

"It was also pleasing to see Samed score twice. He is a goalscorer and he will take a lot of confidence from that."

Beale's charges are back in action on Sunday when they are in Dublin to face UCD at 3pm BST, at the UCD Bowl.

Liverpool U21s: Vigouroux (Firth 45), Virtue (Randall 45), Hart (Whelan 45), Paez (Hart 65), Brewitt (Polgar 45), Madger Gomes (McLaughlin 45), O'Hanlon (Madger Gomes 75), Phillips, Ejaria (Canos 45), Dunn (Brannagan 45), Sinclair (Yesil 45).

N.B. Some of these substitution details, especially Will Marsh playing nearly four minutes at the start of the second half before going off injured, are at odds with those detailed at http://extratime.ie/fixtures/detail/27789/1/ - which also has better coverage of the lack of biscuits at half-time and the phrase "Jack Dunn's just decided to be much better than everybody else."

Young Reds lose to Galway

A young Liverpool U18s side lost 1-0 to Galway United in a friendly at Eamonn Deacy Park on Saturday afternoon.

In front of a passionate crowd of 2,182, both sides produced a good display.

U18s boss Neil Critchley took the opportunity to field two teams during the encounter with some of his younger squad members getting minutes.

The only goal of the game came from Padraic Cunningham in the first-half when he charged into the penalty area before producing a composed finish.

Reflecting on their Irish tour, Critchley told Liverpoolfc.com: "We have had two fantastic games in Ireland and this tour has been very rewarding. There was another fantastic crowd for the boys to play in front of and Galway United were very welcoming. We had some really good moments in the game but it just broke down in the final third but we will work on that and it's all about learning for these young players. We have a lot of positives to take from our training camp in Ireland. I've been very impressed and pleased with the application and attitude of the lads."

Liverpool U18s team: Kelleher, Kane Lewis, Owens, Johnston, Parker, Woodburn, Garton, Kane, Gomes, Adam Lewis, Nicholas. Subs used: Wheeler, Coyle, Masterson, Naeem, Dhanda, Dobie, Alexander-Arnold, Simmonds, Watts, Ahearne, Brewster, Longstaff, Dixon-Bonner.

Yesil strikes again as U21s beat UCD

Samed Yesil hit his third goal in two games as Liverpool U21s wrapped up their pre-season trip to Ireland with a 2-1 win over UCD on Sunday, writes David Lynch ( not that one, I wouldn't think...).

The German had notched twice in a 6-0 victory over Waterford United on Friday evening and made an impact again this time around, coming from the substitutes' bench to double the Reds' advantage thanks to a Jack Dunn pass.

Michael Beale's side had earlier taken the lead through a goal from Cameron Brannagan, who poked the ball home after fine approach play from Sergi Canos with half an hour gone in Dublin.

They were given a scare late on by lively opponents, when Samir Belhout headed home from a corner to set up a frantic finish.

But the young Reds held out to secure a win which left Beale delighted.

He said: "After playing on Friday we tired a little bit in the second half, you could see the boys had a really good long week, but in patches we played really, really well and created a number of chances and scored a fantastic second goal from Samed Yesil."

Beale's team will now return to Merseyside ahead of further pre-season fixtures against PSV and Porto and the U21s boss is excited by the challenge that awaits.

"We're joining some of the players that have not gone away with the first team so that's nice to have some senior players with us for a couple of days," he added.

"Then we're building up next to play against PSV and Porto in a tournament which is really exciting for us. The idea of pre-season is to raise the level of game as we go and I think while this weekend has been really good in terms of our fitness next weekend is going to be a real test technically and tactically."

Liverpool U21s first half: Vigouroux, Randall, Hart, Paez, Brewitt, Madger Gomes, Canos, Marsh, Sinclair, Brannagan, Dunn.

Second half: Firth, Virtue, Paez, Polgar, Whelan, O'Hanlon, Phillips, Brannagan, Dunn, Yesil, Sinclair.

I was at the UCD game

Paez, Madger Gomes, Branagan and Yesil all looked well above average without doing anything brilliant

The rest looked distinctly poor - and some of them would not make the UCD team

Some of the UCD players (themselves mainly 18/19 yrs old) were clearly better on the day than most of ours

Yan Dhanda was on the mark as Liverpool U18s produced an impressive display to beat Lincoln City 3-1 at Sincil Bank on Thursday night.

Neil Critchley's side were playing their first game back on home soil after a successful tour of Ireland and in front of a crowd of 2,418 the young Reds turned on the style.

Liverpool had accepted the invitation from Lincoln City to play the match and raise funds for their Centre of Excellence, and before the game the home club presented Academy officials with a £250 cheque to give to the Hillsborough Families Support Group.

Centre-back Michel Parker fired the young Reds into the lead when he netted from a corner, but Leon Loftus levelled matters for the home side.

The Reds stepped it up after the break and Dhanda netted after a well worked move before Kris Owens completed the scoring with a fine strike.

Reflecting on the performance, Critchley told Liverpoolfc.com: "It was a great evening once again and Lincoln were fantastic hosts.

"It was a magnificent gesture to present the cheque which we accepted on behalf of the club.

"We scored some good goals and it was another pleasing performance."

Liverpool U18s team: Wheeler, Lewis, Johnston, Parker, Masterson, Alexander-Arnold, Kane, Nicholas, Gomes, Dhanda, Adekanye. Subs all used: Kelleher, Dobie, Watts, Owens, Griffin, Naeem.

Dunn nets twice as U21s draw with PSV

Jack Dunn netted twice in superb fashion as Liverpool U21s played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with PSV Eindhoven at Corby Town on Saturday, writes David Lynch.

The midfielder grabbed two well-taken goals in quick succession for the Reds as he turned a one-goal deficit into a 2-1 lead during an goal-laden first half, but Michael Beale's team were pulled back twice after going ahead and had to to a settle for a draw in their opening Steel Cup friendly tournament fixture, with their next coming against Porto at 4pm tomorrow.

Liverpool were up against it early on when their Dutch opposition took the lead from the penalty spot, Clint Leemans sending Andrew Firth the wrong way from the spot. It was at that point, however, that Dunn took control, the Scouser hit a fine strike to level things up before curling a fantastic effort into the top corner to turn the game on its head.

PSV's response came from Olivier Rommens, who netted from close range to make it all square, but the Reds again went ahead as Samed Yesil grabbed his fourth goal in three pre-season outings from close range. The final goal of the half, and indeed the game, then came from Kenneth Paal, who ensured PSV would earn a share of the spoils from a fantastic game.

U21s coach Michael Beale enthused about the quality on show from both teams after the game but admitted his disappointment at seeing his side miss out on a win he felt was merited. "It was a good game, up and down and very exciting," he said. "Both teams have numerous chances in the game and it was two very good teams. PSV have got a lot of youth internationals in their side and the level of opponent was a step up from last week in Ireland. Even the second half started really well and we had probably the best of the opportunities, but we're disappointed not to have won the game - Jerome Sinclair had a couple of chances and their goalkeeper made a particularly good save from Will Marsh. [Reds goalkeeper] Firth was very quiet for us, he didn't have much to do."

Liverpool: Firth, Randall (Virtue 45), Hart, Paez (Polgar, 60), Brewitt (Whelan 45), O'Hanlon (Madger Gomes, 45), Dunn, Phillips, Yesil (Sinclair, 45), Brannagan (Marsh, 65), Canos (McLaughlin, 45).

I was at Steel Park again and watched the game. Despite the terrible weather there was a real buzz around the place that these two were in town but they were both well off the pace in the 45mins they played and Liverpool actually played better in the second half after they were withdrawn. This was a very disappointing result and performance (Corby Town drew with this Porto side the day before) which allowed PSV to take the title/Cup.

Philippe Coutinho and Emre Can both played 45 minutes as Liverpool U21s lost 2-0 to Porto in the Steel Park Cup at Corby Town FC on Sunday afternoon.

The pair looked sharp as they returned to action following an extended break after playing in the Copa America and European U21 Championships respectively.

Coutinho and Can played in the opening half for Michael Beale's charges before they were replaced as was planned pre-match at half-time.

After drawing 3-3 with PSV Eindhoven in their opening game of the tournament on Saturday, the young Reds were hoping for a victory to try and take the title, but it was a tough afternoon against a talented Portugese team.

PSV were crowned overall champions after earlier beating Corby Town 3-0.

Ndubisi Agu gave Porto the lead following a corner and Ivo Rodrigues doubled the advantage from the penalty spot after Corey Whelan was penalised for a handball.

Reflecting on the outing, Beale told Liverpoolfc.com: "It was fantastic to have Philippeand Emre with us and they did really well in the planned 45 minute outing.

"Their attitude was absolutely fantastic and they were brilliant in the dressing room as well with our young lads.

"It was exciting for the supporters at Corby Town to see players of the calibre of Philippe and Emre in action, and I've been lucky to work with them in training this week.

"Overall Porto were much older than us and are ahead of us in their physical preparation at this stage.

"The penalty was very harsh for the second goal and I think even the Porto players were quite surprised when it was given.

"I've been pleased with the players though this weekend. We have faced two tough games against very good opposition.

"We had the chances to have beaten PSV but just couldn't find the winner, and again today we had some good openings but were guilty of trying to get the perfect goal.

"I'm very pleased with our work so far though and we face Chester's first team on Wednesday before playing Morecambe's first team next Saturday, so they will be two good tests for us."

Liverpool U21s: Vigouroux, McLaughlin (Virtue 65), Hart, Paez (Polgar 65), Whelan (Brewitt 65), Can (Randall 45), Dunn (Madger Gomes 65), Brannagan (O'Hanlon 65), Yesil (Sinclair 45), Coutinho (Phillips 45), Canos (Marsh 65).
