Fulham v Liverpool in danger of being postponed

At the risk of being slammed back into the red, this isn't so much about whether it is possible to get to Fulham other than by tube (it is). Last week London was grid-locked - anyone who knows that part of London knows it is fkn awful on a good day. Stewards are part-timers and so will need to get home from whatever they do in the day and then get back to the ground in good time. If they don't show in sufficient numbers there can't be a game. If I was going I'd rather be told at 3pm that they aren't sure that the game will be able to happen than be told at 7.30 that not enough stewards have shown up.

I have absolutely no idea how I will get to craven cottage if there is no tube. Fulham's website isn't very helpful either.

I would accept postponement if the strike goes ahead. Well stuff them whenever it is played

It took me all of 30 seconds on Google to find a link on Fulham's website which gives details on all the ways you can get to their ground, tube, normal train, bus.

You're rubbish.

The PL should tell them the game is going ahead regardless due to such short notice.

I think they'll be reluctant to do this because if there was an incident they'd be opening themselves up to all sorts.  All guesswork but I reckon Fulham probably already have clearance to cancel it if they can't get their staff sorted, hence the pre-emptive statement.

Fulham Football Club Statement

THE WHITECHAPEL FULHAM HORRORS.

THE Fulham fiend is still abroad, and two other victims have become his prey. On Sunday morning a woman was found with her throat cut and her body partially mutilated on the pitch in Craven Cottage, close by the Michael Jackson Club situated in that locality. The discovery seems to have been made at one in the morning by Mr. Lewis Diemschitz, the steward of Fulham FC. Another member of the club, Mr. Morris Eagle, had passed over the pitch at twenty minutes to one, and had not seen anything unusual near the premises. Even if it was too dark to see the body of this woman it is impossible to suppose that Morris Eagle would not have tripped over it had it been there when he went into the club. The inference is therefore this: if the woman was murdered and mutilated where she was found, the deed was done in the short period of twenty minutes - the deed was done in the time which the police surgeon said a medical expert would take to do it. The residents in the court knew nothing about the murder. Neither they nor the people in the club heard or had seen anything that led them to suspect that foul play was going on around them. About three-quarters of an hour after this corpse was found, another was discovered in Mitre-square, Aldgate. It was that of a woman with her throat cut, but in her case the inevitable abdominal mutilation had been accomplished. A watchman was on duty in a counting-house in the square at the time the assassin was operating. Firemen were also on duty at a station close by. Yet nobody heard or saw anything likely to rouse suspicion. The silence and secrecy in which the atrocities were perpetrated wrap them in an impenetrable veil of mystery for the moment. As in former cases the murderer seems to have been almost miraculously successful in securing his retreat. His success in this respect seems to indicate a wonderful power of combination and organisation - an amazing gift for calculating the chances against the success of his schemes or purposes. In fact, the similarity of the murders leads to the conclusion that they have been committed by the one man or the one gang. The worst of it is that we do not know what a "gang" may mean. It might mean an organisation of great extent, or only the partnership between a criminal and his "pal." Recent events seem to suggest that there is more than one individual in the horrid business.

The public cannot fail to be impressed with one fact - the apparent bravado of the assassin. He seems to revel in brutality - and the more energetic the police become in tracking him, the more contemptuously does he defy their efforts. At first he seems to have lost nerve at the critical part of his operation. Now he holds the fancied interruptions of the police patrol in contempt, and commits his murder, and hacks his victim's body, almost within their sight and hearing. Nay, he does this in spite of the fact that Sir Charles Warren has trebled his patrols in the region of the murders, and that it is under the close supervision of a vigilance committee: Cui bono? The assassin it is clear can baffle all ordinary means of detection, and till he commits a singular act of indiscretion - which murderers usually do sooner or later - it appears to us very unlikely that he will ever be discovered. If he has a "pal" that will increase the chance of detection. If he has many and is a member of a gang, his secret will probably be betrayed when a suitable reward is offered as "blood money." The revolting details of the last murders need not be specified here.

We need not say that no plausible explanation of these crimes is as yet forthcoming. The new feature in them is the fact that one followed the other within the space of three-quarters of an hour. All the old features are present. The victims are women of the same class. As women of this sort are now on the alert in Fulham, we may infer that the assassin must appeal to them in some way that disarms suspicion. In other words he cannot suggest by his appearance that he is a bloodthirsty miscreant. Hence the police are justified in coming to the conclusion that whoever he may be, he is not a person of the "Leather Boots" class. For the rest, all that we know about him is that for some reason he selects one locality as his hunting-ground, that his fixed idea is to obtain possession of a certain portion of a woman's body, and that he perpetrates his atrocities at the end of the week, some time between Friday night and Sunday morning. Here we see a curious element of periodicity in the crime. This suggests the idea that if the murderer be a maniac at once lustful and bloodthirsty, he is a homicidal maniac of the type whose attacks only recur at regular intervals. The idea that he is a medical man, who for scientific purposes wants to obtain certain portions of the human body under unique conditions, is not quite compatible with the facts. Why should he want an indefinite number of specimens? Why should he want them at the end of each week? The notion that he means to sell them or issue them as illustrations to a book seems now to be abandoned even by the police. And rightly; for to sell the specimens would be to lose the market for them, and inevitably lead to suspicion being concentrated on the murderer. Sexual insanity, however, is, on the face of the facts, the only intelligible motive of the murder - but then the facts essential for the formation of a sound judgement are at present wanting. There are so few available facts that it is impossible to arrive at a very definite opinion as to the cause of these murders. Meantime the people of the East end are again becoming angry, first, because the police are unable to protect them, and, second, because the Government does not offer a reward for the discovery of the murderer.

As such, Fulham FC have stated that the esteemed football contest that was to be held on Wednesday night, is called off for the safety of all concerned, until such time as the fiendish assassin is apprehended.

This is bullshit! Fulham held a home game (cup match vs Sheff Utd) last week when the 1st tube strike began so how the fuck can they now claim a tube strike will disrupt Wednesday's match? And if Arsenal can manage to hold their game versus the mancs then what's Fulham's excuse? There are dozens of ways to get to the Fulham stadium without using the tube.

The club should not accept this crap from Fulham and demand the match go ahead regardless of a tube strike. Otherwise they should forfeit the game.

Man, the amount of respect I'd instantly have for Ian Ayre if we released a statement right now saying that we expect the match to go ahead for the numerous valid reasons the whole country have put forward (Sheff Utd match, Arsenal vs Mancs, Overground/Buses, Strike announced 10th Jan, etc) and dispute it with the FA.

Frankly, if they are unable to get their fucking house in order for a match then that is their problem. They should be forced to forfeit the match or play it, because there is no fucking way they should be allowed to call this off.

Arsenal have warned fans to expect "significant travel disruption" ahead of their crunch Premier League match against Manchester United at the Emirates on Wednesday.
A 48-hour strike involving London Underground staff has been called which will affect supporters travelling to and from the match.
Tube services to stations near the stadium are "likely to be very limited" and supporters are being encouraged to use overground train services and buses.
First Capital Connect train serices to nearby Finsbury Park are expected to be much busier than normal.
Supporters are being encouraged to plan extra time for their journeys and check www.tfl.gov.uk and @TfLTravelAlerts on Twitter for the latest travel information.

Emirates Stadium Capacity: 60,361

Following a number of enquiries regarding how the potential London Underground strike action may affect Wednesday evening’s fixture against Liverpool, the Club can confirm that it is currently proceeding on the basis that the game will go ahead.

However, the Club has concerns over the potential impact that the strike may have on the ability of its safety staff to attend the ground in sufficient time and numbers to ensure that it is able to open the ground and effectively operate it, from the time that the gates are open to the public until the departure of all supporters.

After consulting with the Local Authority and the Metropolitan Police, it has been decided that if the proposed action is still undetermined at 3pm tomorrow (Tuesday), and the Club cannot guarantee enough staff are available to attend the ground in sufficient time and numbers, then as a consequence the Club would not be able to comply with the terms of its safety certificate and the fixture would be postponed and rescheduled for a future date.

Craven Cottage capacity: 25,700

Complete try-on by Fulham. Anyone who wants to get to the ground will get there if they allow a bit more time.

There'll be a limited tube service. You can get train to Putney bridge. Buses are running. Taxis will be slow but you'll get there. You can get a riverboat to Putney. You can even fucking walk.

Fair play to J Henry.

I think Werner is a bit of a tit (although, he stays away from the cameras enough for it to be fine), but I quite like Henry. I just wish he was more hands on, especially at transfer time.
