Had a completed mental block while learning over the last year, mostly just felt a complete lack of energy for anything, barring the past few days ive been sleeping better and feeling better for taking these dozy bears sleeping aid and some 5HTP the past few months. Sold off my board game stuff i wasnt using a treated myself to a new guitar to get going again as listening to music everyday has helped to.

Anyway i should have it next week unless the couriers decide to break it

Has anyone bought a cheaper guitar to then upgrade or bought a Chinese replica to do the same?

I'm waiting for a copy to arrive. Picked it up cheap and they've got decent reviews, most people saying they just got it set up and later changed up pickups and tuners.

Got a copy of Princes HS Anderson tele. Be interesting to see how it turns out.

Not sure I can pull off his look or skills mind

Nice!

I built this eons ago - it has had every possible pickup combo for a semi stock Tele.

Right now it is a Gretsch filter in the front and a Duncan 1/4 on the back. I have a red pickguard that has a hotrails strat pickup in the middle position as well. Good easy guitars to swap around - mine is a Warmoth body with a Kubicki neck.

Sperzel locking tuners.

You can upgrade as you go along for sure. Some cheap teles can be loud (ground hum/noise) - a decent pickup and a couple of bucks for new pots/wire is easy enough.

Who knows - might sound great right off the bat.

I had a Jet Tele and also have a Jet strat, but I have sold the Tele and will likely move on the strat too as they have way too narrow necks. I play mainly acoustic and the strange thing is that I dont even have big hands or sausage fingers.Getting an electric with a 45mm or 1 3/4 width nut is almost impossible.

The cheaper versions (especially of strats and teles) all have thinner necks - I guess with beginners/kids in mind.

Mine is 1 11/16 - most higher end teles will be that.

Warmoth sells 1.75" in both Tele and Strat.

Rickenbacker 660 is a wide nut off the shelf - Eastman 335's as well.

I had a cheaper Epi Les Paul that was a bit wider than my tele so must have been one.

Eastmans look great guitars but very pricey for me. I like their acoustics too as I play mostly acoustic. I'd like to try an LP to test out their necks.

I've got an old Squier Jumbo that my son tried to learn on but gave up. I had it set up and it's my daily player, but the body is too big in all honesty, but it plays great for a cheapo laminate. I have a cheap Fender Concert C60 size (great size, shit guitar) a Cort Parlour sized (ok budget guitar) and an Almeria classical (another budget under 200 quid purchase.) That needs a good set up though.
