If it was going to, it would've happened by now. We're well past that point in the TV series.

They have kept quite close to the book but have missed out certain storyline's and spent less time on others. 

 

It is well worth reading the books mate, I'm a huge fan of the TV series but I've read the books at least 4* times

 

Mainly because the cunt takes 3-4 years between books and this last wait is particularly annoying. If he dies before finishing the series I'm gonna kill him......

To answer the original question, I want to ultimately see one of the Starks on the throne (I include the bastard in that).

Read them. You won't have finished them by the time this series finishes, and the series will have caught up with/gone past where the books are now.

The obvious answer is Danaerys and Jon, with Tyrion as Hand.

 

But as that's the obvious answer, it won't be that.

 

Bran is going to play a major part in the denouement, as is Arya.
