2 Pac was not a great rapper. He was an actor who played a role (gangsta/feuder) well and had good writers; Busta is sound but in no sense the best (or fastest); and Warren G didn't rap. Apart from that, you're spot on.

I went off Hip Hop around the mid to late 90s, The Wu Tan Clan debut LP was a high point & I grew up listening to a lot of Public Enemy, Willie D from the Geto Boys was fucking brilliant as well but I don't think I'd ever buy another Hip Hop album now.

 

Tupac, Dr Dre, Eminem, Jay Z & that Biggie Smalls cunt are all fucking awful though, I have no idea how people can listen to that stuff, bad music with shite rapping.

I know he's possibly too young for the mantle of 'best of all time' but Kendrick Lamar takes the fucking biscuit. Yet to see anyone meld songcraft, straight up rap skills, genius multi-layered wordsmithery and such a powerful message quite like he has.

It's Rakim for me, though I think the best single album in terms of MC performance is probably Illmatic. Chuck D is far from the best technically, but in terms of the whole package he is right up there. I find it too difficult to pick individuals from the Wu (even though Ghostface, Raekwon and Gza in particular have made phenomenal solo albums) so I would almost tend to view them as a single unit. I love Tribe, but I think Q-Tip is in the league just below the ones I've mentioned.
