I've had a look at Dropbox and while it looks great my head is spinning a little bit. Think I'm going to have my hands tied just getting plex set up before I look at that! It looks the dogs bollocks though to be fair.

It's just a folder on your computer that syncs across the cloud. So if you put dropbox on your mac mini and dropbox on your laptop, putting the torrent file in the dropbox folder will automatically sync with your mac, and transmission can pick it up from there.

Where is the actual file stored? Is it on both computers? I was just going to download everything directly from the Mac but would this mean the file is held in the cloud instead?

I'm going to download transmission though and use that.

I'm talking about the .torrent file that you download from IPT, mate. If you didn't want to sit in front of the TV with a keyboard and mouse, you could use your laptop or work computer or phone to download the torrent file that morning, and put it into dropbox. From there, it'll sync over to your Mac's dropbox and Transmission will automatically start downloading the Show/Film onto your USB HD.

Esentially, you download a file and put it in a folder. It just saves you from having to be at the TV.

Right got you. Sounds good, just discovered they sell Amazon fire tv boxes in Argos as well so I'm off out now to pick one up and a harddrive.

Think I'll be spending a good few hours setting this up so I may tap you up for advice in a bit if I need it! Ta for your help so far.

If you are going to download shitloads in a short time I would set up Usenet. Get SabNzbd working to download stuff, get Couchpotato and Sickbeard set up to automate film/tv downloads as soon as they are released. You then need an indexing site to add stuff to SabNzbd and a paid usenet account such as Eweka or Tweaknews (both have free trials so give them both a go).

It costs about 6/7 dollars a month but well worth it especially if you are filling a massive drive quickly. Much less hassle than torrents (auto extraction of everything for a start).

It should be a separate thread though, if there isn't one already.

Yeah, no danger. Just make sure you quote my post so I get an alert.

You can auto extract anyway. I do like the sound of automated TV downloads on release though. Do you get to chose your own quality?

Yeah. You can set a range of qualities. If you only want the highest it will wait for it, if you are happy with a cam or whatever it will download that for you and replace it when a higher quality release comes out. Great for TV as it usually downloads everything overnight. SabNzbd has a torrent option as well but I've never used it.

I would defo set it up and give it a go.

Got the Seagate plugged in now, it's backing up the Mac wih time machine so that'll take an hour or two I think then I'm getting straight on sorting plex out.

Did you partition it?

Did you partition it?

It seemed to do it automatically. When I plugged it in it asked if I wanted to use time machine to back the Mac up ( I wasn't even thinking of that when I bought it but thought I might as well ) and it said click erase to make it compatible with the Mac and since then it's been backing up the Mac.

I've just deleted uTorrent and downloaded Transmission which I think I've set to download directly to the harddrive and I'm downloading Pacific Rim now to see if it goes to there. Once I've done that and downloaded a few things to it I'll see if I can sort Plex out. I'm getting daggers from the Mrs though for hogging the telly with ' nerd stuff '

Whilst it probably won't hurt, I don't think it's the best idea to have it as a backup drive and for plex and torrents. Seems a bit strange to me.

Really? I'd not had my Mac backed up before this and just thought it seemed like a good idea. The downloads have gone straight to the harddrive and I've set up a movies folder like it suggests on the plex site and I'll do a TV one later.

I'll bump the Amazon fire thread in a minute incase people are getting annoyed with this clogging the xbmc thread.
