Mohamed Salah

It’s been quite a while since Salah delivered performances on a regular basis to match his salary. Still a lot of end product in him, not least a growing number of brilliant assists. But his general play has been declining for a couple of years at least, and it seems the frequency of goals, at least non penalty goals, is dropping.

With the wages he’s probably demanding, his age and his perfomances dropping I reckon it’s time to say goodbye next summer. Let him leave as the true legend he is, and have his decline elsewhere.

One of these days (before he eventually leaves in July) we'll figure out he's not able to beat a man by himself anymore and needs bodies around him to feed off......which would ideally involve some kind of overlapping runs by Trent/Szobo or generally any kind of forward run that would pull a defender close to him away.

Right now every time he gets the ball it's as if he feels the weight on his shoulders to produce something when he just needs to relax.

There's a clip on reddit which details his every touch against Wolves, so many times he's having to drop deeper than normal to pick up the ball.....isolated. That's not where you Salah to be. Fix the right side balance and you may start seeing more productivity and effectiveness.

Oh dear, if anything his general play is getting better and better.

Just the five goals and four assists in the first eight games this season though, clearly need to up his game.

His league record so far.

Played 6.

4 goals

4 assists

The defensive side of his game is stronger than ever, too.

I'm happy for him to continue as shit as that for another year or two.

The thing we have to get used to with Salah, is his acceleration isn't there anymore. His ability to be that little bit quicker than his opponent over a small number of yards is only there when he has a trick, where as when he was younger, he had the raw pace. He's always had moments where the ball just bounces off him, he always missed loads of easy chances. And despite all that, he posts the numbers he has. This is a different Mo now that uses his intelligence to find the right space, play the right ball and create the space he needs with his head rather than his feet. I don't think it stops those days I described above, or the days where he seems to be frustrated with himself and tries too hard. I think he's been quite up and down this season, yet so far has posted the numbers @AngryOfTuebrook mentioned. If he can keep that up all season, we have absolutely no concerns.

I'm not sure that'll change anything about his future beyond that though.

If you just accept that footballer's earn absurd amounts of money (mainly because footie-mad idiots like us have a combination of blind loyalty to our club and infinite willingness to pay for watching it), then there is noone I would rather have picking up the biggest pay-check at LFC than Salah. Seriously, how often do you see a club's top star and best player create so little fuss and behave so impeccably year after year?

Liverpool are unconcerned by new claims Egypt forward Mohamed Salah, 32, has already agreed to join a Saudi Arabian club when his contract expires next summer.

That moron Micah Richards was saying the same the other day, that he knows for a fact that Mo is going to Saudi next season. How the fuck that tit can be privy to such information, fuck knows?

It's crazy the comments he gets on here. He's been exactly the same for years, amazing games mixed in with thoroughly frustrating games but the numbers are always there. I think his all round game is miles better now than when he joined but when he's bad, he's really bad. I said at the start of the season he'd have 40 goal involvements this season, only Haaland will top that.

Never said he was shit. And I have no problem understanding why many will have a different opinion than me on this.

If he signed an extension and we had him for 3 more seasons then I wouldn't bet against him still being our top scorer in every one of those seasons.

Unless we've got our eye on someone special who we expect to surpass Mo's numbers, then we need to give him the contract, otherwise we're immediately going to be weaker.

I will be surprised if he knows what he is having for tea today.

Only 12 goals away from being the 4th highest goalscorer in the clubs history. Not bad for a one season wonder.

His numbers are ridiculous. I know Messi, Rapey Ron, and the Citeh troll have set ridiculous levels, but Mo's are still enviable.

Even if he leaves at the end of the season he won't be far off 250 goals in all competitions for Liverpool (I think he's on 217 or 218 now).

An incredible player.

Edit: IMHO if he played as many games for Liverpool as Rushie did, I think he'd beat Rushie's record. And that's no slight on Rushie.

It's nuts. He'll probably overtake Billy Liddell this season.  If they give him a contract extension, Gordon Hodgson can start worrying.

So far the stats would agree.

Its not just the 217 goals though, he’s got 92 assists as well, with 28885 minutes played for the club, he’s scored or got an assist every 93 minutes, its just amazing.
