Against Utd you see the calls of 'give him what he wants', today was the other side of the argument.

 

He wasn't the only one mind, Dom was also out of sorts.

No issue criticising him after a shit performance, but seems unnecessary to bring up the contract when he’s started the season on fire.

He's had many games like that for us in the last 3 years or so where it looks like a fan has been plucked out of the crowd to play. Sometimes he'll score to make up for it.

 

It's so strange how a top notch player like him can be so bad at times that it's genuinely embarassing.

 

Firmino in his last few years had many games like it too where finding a team mate even with a 5 yard pass was a tough ask & really doing anything of note in a game was asking too much.

I don't think it is. I mean, it's apparently an insult towards him and a disgrace, and I'm sure none of that has to do with the fact he started the season  well and people can only look at the past and present.

Every so often he throws in a game where he looks like George Weah's cousin. He has games were he's quiet, all top players have those but he has the odd one when he doesn't look like he knows how to kick a football.

Odd that Slot doesn’t take him off when he was having a shocker last week against Forest, or when the game is done and buried at 3-0 this week.

 

Minutes need to be managed, especially as he gets older.

Mad how many times he fluffs shots considering he has a billion goals. There were a few yesterday one where he slowly took it past three players intricately and then slowly passed it to the keeper with a side foot pass. Bizarre.

His increasing number of weak pass back shots is entirely linked to his loss of his electric pace imo.

 

Now when he's through, most of the time, he's got a yard less than he had. He's under more pressure from behind and the goalie is a little more set than in the past so he doesn't have the time to get round the ball as much and the goalie is completely set and ready.

 

He needs to start using his right foot more in those areas, both because it is more likely he'll get a better shot off (better than a weak pass back) and because it'll start to add doubt to the mix for the defence and might give him a bit more space and time again.

The insane numbers that Salah, Firmino and Mane put up together managed to hide the shitloads of chances that were missed.
Chance gone? No worries, another one will be along in a minute.

Mo has always been like that, yet he still remains, on previous seasons showings, our most potent threat.

Whether time is actually catching up with him or not will define what happens this season, if it hasn’t already been decided that he’ll be moving on by the bean counters.

Salah had a great game yesterday, he should have tried his own luck twice instead of trying to set up Nunez though.

Personally I thought he started well. But he does the thing I think he often does when other forwards score, he gets desperate to score himself. And as soon as he does that, he goes to pieces as he tries too hard. It's all no problem though. Others did their job - one of the big keys to our success previously was we always found a way that on that front, one of the forwards would nearly always find a way. As long as we keep that up, we'll be ok. It's weeks like last week we can't have..

He didn't have a great game. Nor did he have the horrendous game others have implied.

 

He was OK; good, even.  Just not up to the standards he has set.  At least twice he fluffed his shot, going for the near post, when the back post was gagging for it. 

 

I'm not concerned about his form.  Form comes and goes.  I wouldn't be at all surprised if he scored three in the next three matches.

He generally does a lot of good in games, even now at 32…..but at times we also have to be honest and say that can be overridden by the feeling of frustration due to the sheer number of chances and promising situations that break down at his feet.
