Once you accept the game is full mostly of mercenary, greedy, self absorbed, detatched from reality bad bells and more or less none of them really care about the clubs or the fans the easier it is to tolerate.

Or it's just the fact that clubs now sign foreign players from continents all over the world like South America and Africa, who have zero affiliation or emotional connection to European clubs. It was a lot easier to sign players who actually cared for Liverpool in the 70's when their signings were exclusively from around the UK.

I know I'm being a naive idealist, but there's still a part of me in denial about the modern footballer.

Just a sliver of me would like to think that players who sign for the club do so because they have sort some of small affection for the club.  That they dreamed of pulling on the red shirt, and to play at Anfield is seen as an honour.

I laugh at players signing up for Chinese clubs and wonder if their fans are being sold some sort of lie about the players saying they're honoured to play for Xixianxing or whatever, when we all know the players are tripling their wages and have a short term monetary motivation.

But the truth is, do players like Sadio Mane or Roberto Firmino do anything differently to Tevez or that bubble-faced tart who used to play for Chelsea?

What Salah did a couple of years ago by jibbing us off for Chelsea has been totally missing from discussions about him.

The truth is it's going to take a lot more than running quickly up and down the line to win me over.

Frankly, I don't like him.

Mane apparently refused to play for Salzburg to force a move to Southampton...

This might explain it. They had a top class coach and we didn't. Also we didn't come back with another offer.
