This may be off the mark, but I suspect that if Salah had a typical Latin/Continental appearance (a lithe, 6 foot + build like F. Torres, Ronaldo, Henry and that ilk) he'd be much more appreciated by the mainstream. Because by the numbers, he's in a league of his own. For further context, Rooney & Ronaldo were being compared to young Peles in the years they were being up their best. Eden '15 goals a season' Hazard who - surprise, surprise - has found yet another coach whose style 'limits' him, isn't fit to tie Mo's boots.

There are lots of insults that refer to a certain aspect of people that are racist but are not down to race. Even skin colour does not identify with a certain race. To insult someone due to their religious beliefs is just as racist as to insult someone due to their skin colour.
