I don't think he will leave this summer, but he is the most likely of our front three imo to go in the next 2-3 years. He knows how marketable he is and with Messi/ronaldo less marketable in the coming years, he could become the main man in that regard. He could demand a huge contract and FSG might say sod off take the crazy money from Real and buy 2-3 top players to make up for him going. Jurgen won't want anyone to get above their station. Having said that he knows how much we love him and the parade would be a great reminder for him as well.

 

Mane loves it here and Bobby clearly does too especially with Allison and Fabinho here as well. They will look at Phil and see all isn't rosey on the other side of the garden.

 

We are one of the biggest clubs in the world and will be challenging for all the big trophies for the next few years. It's nice to be at that point again.

Salah clearly is a very competitive and driven player, and it seems the more he does, the more driven he appears, but alongside that he isn’t a flash Harry, he is grounded and humble.

 

he reminds a little of Torres, perhaps, and in hindsight and in reality, you can’t blame Torres for feeling he wasn’t going to achieve great things with us.

 

i don’t see Salah wanting to go anywhere while we continue to be strong and challenge for trophies - basically as long as klopp is here.

 

i can’t believe there is anyone in our first team squad that plays even half regularly that would want to be anywhere else right now.

 

even the youngsters in the fringe - the likes of Wilson - who will clearly want to be playing and may feel their chances lie elsewhere must have hesitancy, having seen Gomez and Trent given chances under klopp and bloom as they have.

It won’t get bigger anywhere else, it won’t mean more anywhere else, they won’t become more of an icon among fans all over the world for the rest of their days anywhere else, and the one which ticks the most important box...we can genuinely compete with anyone again.

 

You’ll always get the odd one who wants to go for the cachet of the big two in Spain, wants a more familiar/sunny lifestyle or similar, but other than that this nucleus will keep itself together when a club of this scale, size and global support has just thrown the monkey sat on its back for a long time off a cliff and is entering a natural cycle of success.

 

Even those pondering the above will have Coutinho as a living emblem of how the grass isn’t always greener. Other than Virg and Alisson, that may prove his greatest lasting legacy to us.

Mohamed Salah is fantastic on the football pitch — but he might be doing even more off it. 

It seems that Liverpool F.C.’s star forward, who scored 22 Premier League goals this season and helped his club with the trophy over the weekend, has literally, singlehandedly, shifted how large swaths of Liverpudlians think about Islam — and driven down hate crimes as a result. 

A study from Stanford University’s Immigration Policy Lab found that since the uber-popular English soccer club signed the Muslim Egyptian national in June 2017, hate crimes fell 18.9 percent in Merseyside County relative to a synthetic control that estimated what the rate would’ve been. No other type of crime experienced a similar effect.

“This decline was more extreme than we would expect based on chance alone, and the decrease in hate crimes was more pronounced than the decrease in any other crime category,” the authors of the study wrote. “Taken together, the evidence points to Salah’s rise in prominence causing a decrease in hate crimes in Liverpool F.C.’s home county.”

The study also found that Liverpool fans halved their rate of anti-Muslim tweets compared with other top-flight English clubs — a drop from 7.2 percent of all tweets about Muslims to 3.4 percent. The study also noted that Liverpool fans have even sung positive chants about Salah that reference his Muslim identity, calling him “a gift from Allah.”

The study looked at police data, 15 million tweets from soccer fans and took a survey of more than 8,000 Liverpool fans. The researchers found that Salah’s public persona as a celebrity — he’s known as an agreeable, charismatic family man — has worked to shift Islamophobic perceptions as he talks openly and publicly about his faith.

“By watching games, post-game interviews, promotional videos released by the club, and content on Salah’s social media pages, fans are exposed to rich information about Salah’s life on and off the field,” the researchers wrote. “Viewers see what a Muslim prayer looks like, perhaps for the first time, when Salah scores.”

In short: the researchers found the “Salah effect” was real — that a celebrity from a stigmatized group can actually reduce prejudice toward that group. So yes, Salah’s two consecutive Golden Boot awards — given to the EPL’s top scorer — are impressive, but it’s hard to beat the off-field impact.
