I think he's much better suited to managing the 3rd/4th/5th richest club in a country than the richest.

Buying players just outside the top bracket and turning them into top bracket players. Not having any "we have to play beautifully" stipulations from above.

It's a shame he grew up supporting such a horrible football club.

Apparently his time is up, according to Guillem Balague. Crazy club Real Madrid, it's not really about football.

4 points off top, in the last 16 of the CL. Couldn't make it up.

Think he's been sacked with Zidane taking over.  Cunt club

Class as Ever

05/01/2016

Now, at the end of my time as first team coach of Real Madrid,I would like to use this article to say goodbye to everyone at every level of the club. I want everyone at the club from the Board of directors, executives, workers and all of the fans, know that it has been an honour and privilege to be in charge at this club.were I grew up as a person, player and coach from the lowest categories through to the first team. As a madridista from Madrid, steeped in the traditions and values of this institution, which I learned in the old sports city of Castellana, it has been an honour to work for these colours. I would especially like to thank everyone at the new sports city and the Santiago Bernabéu who since my first steps through the door have supported me and made my work easier. Thanks to all for helping.

With all that I have said still in mind, I would like to wish good luck to Zinedine Zidane,my successor, and his staff. To all the players, coaches and staff in both Valdebebas and Bernabéu, I wish all the best and also good luck.

With all my respect and thanks... HALA MADRID and NOTHING ELSE.

Madrid was the wrong club at the wring time. Rafa's vanity (and no doubt his love for Madrid) plus his obsession with seeing if he can out-do Mourinho at a succession of clubs meant he couldn't turn it down, although he should have.

Leaving aside the gobshite board and the attitude of the fans that mean that no Madrid manager can ever be a  long-term fixture at the Bernabeu, the fact that he was following on the heels of Anceolotti - a defensive-minded coach and a great organiser - who wasn't  really loved there - meant that he was on a hiding to nothing. Leaving aide the stiff about Bale, Ronaldo etc, Rafa's style of play was only ever going to alienate large sections of the Madrid support. An accident waiting to happen.

Kind of sad when a great club has shit fans.

Kind of makes them not a great club.

See United.
