I am no Rafanista, but am hugely impressed by the job he is doing.

He always has been a fine football manager, but with hubris his weak point. I think he has finally realised that he is a far better football manager than Boardroom politician, and is concentrating what he is good at.

Not only will Newcastle return, but I also expect them to be a top eight force in quick time.

He's certainly got them playing good football. Some regular hammerings dished out now, and that dwight gayle is banging them in.

I actually hope we don't get them in the league cup, because there strongest side would be a tough test for our mixed side.

Will be interesting to see if he's in it for the long haul with them or if he'll jump to a bigger job once he gets them promoted.

Assuming he won't have colossal funds at his disposal, would he be happy to struggle in the top tier for a few years while building a side that might compete at that level?

I think he'll stay.  He appears to be happy there and the Geordies love him now.  It's a love affair.

There's three of them in that relationship, though. The Mike Ashley factor can't be ignored.

And would he be happy to be in a situation where he's competing to reach sixth or seventh place?

If he finished sixth in his first season back that wouldn't be too shabby.  Yes, I think he and the fans would be happy with that in the short term at least.  A bit of silverwear and they'll replace the Angel of the North.
