Ive just been reviewing some Jeff Beck work over the last couple of weeks, but took a break to listen to various pieces of Pink Floyd work - I’m looking for a fuzz pedal to get me ‘in the ball park’ of Gilmour for one or two songs we do in a little band I play in.

I came across an album that I used to saturate my brain with about 30 yrs ago. Ive got so much music, its easy to forget what you’ve got, if it is down the bottom of a great huge pile.

Roger Waters released ‘Amused To Death’ in 1992. Not only is Jeff Beck a guest guitarist on this album, there are other legends as well…making contributions for Roger, like Andy Fairweather Low, Steve Lukather  & Jeff Porcaro.

Anyone who has never given it a listen, if you are a fan of ‘The Wall’ then this is equally as grand in concept and production. Needless to say, Roger’s cutting wit and social commentary is at it’s very best here.

I was in Leicester last weekend for a Marillion weekend. They did two really good shows but I think I secretly preferred the tribute bands I saw in the afternoons doing the Fish-era stuff - Stillmarillion and My Punch. Added bonus from Mr Punch who did a full Grendel and then a brilliant rendition of Return of the Giant Hogweed as one of the encores

Good stuff man.

Is the clarinet in the band full time?

Vocals have a Layne Staley feel.

It's a saxophone & he loves playing with us for some reason. He's wanting us to do some gigs but I'm not sure I can do it.

Mike Portnoy is back in Dream Theatre.

I think that's really shite on Mike Mangini he had grown into that drum stool and on the last album and tour he was fucking amazing.

But he has been nothing less than gracious over it and I'm sure he will never be out of work. I give DT 1-2 albums before Portnoy is fighting them again

Yea, read that he was never considered a "member" of the band by himself or the other lads.

Also was quite candid about Portnoy being far more than just the drummer in that band.

Yea, seems a good guy - 14 years on the gig I think.

The Dream Theatre drummer auditions belong on the Drumming thread. Marco Minnemann is killing it.

If Mangini hadn't got the job Minnemann should have got it. I've seen him with Joe Satriani and The Aristocrats and he is phenomenal.
