hmm

never really listened to dream theatre.

I'm more of your Tull/crimson/Yes nutter

Contemporary wise, Porcupine Tree, or anything by its founder Steve Wilson, and Circa, which is X-Yes man Billy Sherwood.

Porcupine Tree anyone?

Stephen Wilson recently re-mixed "Close To The Edge" for Yes in 5.1 and Stereo, from the original multitracks.

Not heard it yet but by all accounts its PRIMO.

Where to start

I'm going to give special shout outs for Yes, King Crimson, ELP, Gentle Giant, Focus, Genesis & some Caravan.

Does anyone else think that Tales of Topographic Oceans is massively underrated?

Early Genesis is my dirty little secret.  Generally, I've got no time for anything pompous or overblown.  But amongst the many, many types of great music my many, many brothers and sisters had playing when I was growing up, one of my sisters got me into Foxtrot, Nursery Crymes, Selling England By the Pound and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.

Dirty Little Secret, AoT ? Genesis were fantastic until Gabriel left.

They were brilliant until Hackett left IMO, Trick of the tail and Wind & wuthering are great albums along with Seconds out (the live one).
