Had Samsung for the last couple of TV's with no problems at all.

In the market for a new 60" plus as soon as we finish doing up the basement tv room.

What is the way to go these days?

Smart tv?

3d?

Any must have features that have come out in the last 3 years or so?

I have a Panasonic Viera smart telly. It's shite but then so's my internet.

It's also a 3D telly. I've watched one thing on it, thought that looked shite too and the two pairs of outrageously expensive glasses are gathering dust somewhere I can't find them.

Not exactly what you are after but I purchased this LG one about a year ago and I'm made up with it. 47", it does have 3D which I used precisely once so I wouldn't worry about that. I've got a mac mini, Virgin TiVo box and a PS3 hooked into an AV receiver which is hooked into the TV and it's worked great from the off. Great picture on it. £499.

Or they have a 55" one for £729 http://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-47LA620V-Widescreen-Freeview-Built-In/dp/B00BS55N9Y/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1402517231&sr=1-1&keywords=lg+tv

Slightly baffles me that people who have 3D tv s never use or rate the 3D. For me I find it to be brilliant but at first I have to admit I found it to be really disapointing  until I worked out(it dosent seem to tell you in any instructions how to set the telly up to get the full 3Deffect) To get the full effect of the 3D the telly has to be set to eyeline level for it to work properly.

Of course if you have a family it does make it hard to set up at eyeline level so everybody in the room gets the full effect.

Have a browse through this little lot on Richer Sounds. All between £400 - £600.

Ah, balls, the URL I provided is for the entire TV range, not the refined search that I had used.

http://m.richersounds.com/#!/product/SAMS-UE50H5000

Looks good, not seen any reviews however. The H6400 is a good model but it's £650 and 3d.

This was in the refined search.

I would add that the TV's from Samsung/LG and all of the cheaper models from the others tend to have the colour and brightness set too high by default. I would spend a bit of time playing with the settings in-store to get the right picture. Sony has always seemed to me to have the 'truest' colour.

Also, my father-in-law has a top-end Samsung (and I've seen others), and there is a definite blur/judder during fast-paced sports games which I have not seen on other brands.

Ended up getting a Samsung 48 inch from Richer Sounds for £649.  It's got internet, PVR recording via USB, and the picture is ok.  It's got 3D as well, though I can't see myself using that (I've only got terrestrial TV).  Oh, and if you buy from there, give them your email address, and you get 5 years guarantee.

Thanks for all the suggestions chaps.
