These fucking stupid headphones everyone is wearing

I had to buy new headphones recently and as soon as I bought them my iTunes decided to play the cunt. I still can't get it working and as such my iPod won't work. I have been left to listening to the radio in the morning and have no idea how people do it; it's like having liquid shit poured into your ears and being beaten around the head with a solid block of mediocrity.

I take it you boys weren't around in the 80's. If you ever came across someone with a ghetto blaster on their shoulder you'd be giving the earphone guys hugs and thanking them.

I saw a guy outside Moorfields last week with a T-shirt tied above his belly button and a ghetto blaster on his shoulder.

Edit: Actually I'm saying ghetto blaster but it was one of these:

I have a pair of these

Because I found a pair half price on eBay. Fit right over my ears, really really comfortable, and the sound quality is pretty good from what I can tell. Not really arsed about that sort of thing, but these have a switch on them called a bass boost, I don't think it boosts just the bass, the entire sound sounds brilliant when its switched on.

These things...

With the stupid little rubber bits on the end, always fall out of my ears. Whether putting them on the small size, medium or large. None feel secure at all.

I've only ever worn closed cup headphones, although only indoors; I'm not one of these twats who has to listen to music during every waking hour. The recent fad for them has left me wondering why it took everyone so long to realise just how shit those earbuds are. Uncomfortable, tinny sounding and prone to falling off your head every 5 minutes.

However those Dre things are for people with more money than sense. I have a pair of Sony MDR-XD200s which cost me £12.99 five years ago and have served me perfectly adequately. Unless you have bat-like hearing I can't understand why you'd want to spend more than 50 quid or so.

There is a massively noticeable difference in sound quality from better headphones. Shit ones compress the sound and you don't hear the top or bottom end properly. That said, the gains are marginal the higher up the scale you go.

I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 25s that cost just under a hundred quid and they're brilliant for both listening and DJing without being obscenely expensive. None of those fashion branded ones that cost twice as much can touch them.

Exactly. I used to love it when members of the black community were blasting out there tunes down Church street through their ghetto blasters and throwing sone breakdancing moves on a laid out cardboard box. I was introduced to proper rap and the Sugarhill gang this way.

Good headphones are a must. Even if they are huge.

I have a pair of Sony MDR-V700s from the DJing days.

Extremely comfortable and even ten years later the sound quality is awesome after being hammered in quite a few clubs. I packed up the DJing about 2 years ago and now they get used when I play Poker in the casino. Not to look cool or hip or any of that business. Purely to block out the vast amount of gobshite £15 World Series players that seem to like spouting absolute bullshit in your ears about how you should play your hand.

It's somewhat different though. This latest fad isn't about technology or sound quality, it's about looking like a fucking stupid dickhead. These days, any attention is good attention, and that goes for the way you're dressed, to the loud noises you make in public when people aren't paying you their full attention. Walking down the street in giant white or luminous green headphones is not about being a music lover, it's about saying 'look at my fucking stupid headphones'.
