Is this conspiracy theory still doing the rounds?

The internet has become the home of disinformation, enabling virtually unfettered access for anyone with an opinion to ‘publish’ their views and the more outrageous they are, the more traffic they generate to turn into ad revenue.

An example close to home. Social media postings show that some viewers of BBC’s Question Time find it biased towards the Conservative government and have worked out why. Apparently, it is because Fiona Bruce is married to Nigel Sharrocks, who is supposedly CEO of Carat, which has a £4m contract with the Government for ‘PR’.

So Fiona, it is claimed, is simply parroting the party line to further her husband’s interests.

However, most of you will know that Nigel left Carat over 10 years ago, four years before Carat even won the Government contract, which they then lost in 2018.

You will also know that HMG’s media-buying contract has nothing to do with ‘PR’ and is a neutrally-run enterprise.

But that’s not the point. The sad truth is, that even if any of this were not laughably irrelevant, the likelihood of Fiona Bruce running Question Time on the basis of personal interests are nil. The ‘story’ is ridiculous in every respect, but it’s a tiny example of the ludicrous extent that social media has poisoned public opinion and arguably even infected mainstream media as they derive so much of their content from that source.

It seems a lot of these Tory twats consist of:

People from fairly comfortable areas that rarely have any unemployment issues.

People who bought their houses years ago and are comfortably well off. They also think young people are lazy because they can't save for a deposit for house that is far out of their reach and have to constantly rent, usually off Tory twats who are fortunate enough to have a second or third property.

Own their own business or did do qnd are retired. They moan about people wanting a decent living wage. They are also fine with blagging their tax. Despite doing this they will slag off people on benefits and asylum seekers believing they are the reason why the country has gone downhill.

"Tell it like it is" but don't like being proven wrong, even when presented with cold hard facts. Basically the type of cunts who believe the fans turning up pissed caused Hillsborough despite the enquiry proving otherwise.

Despite none of the issues that affect people on a day to day basis such as crime, poverty, unemployment and unreliable public transport they usually tell people to get on with it or grow a backbone despite never having experienced it themselves.

Think it was great during wartime even though none of them were alive.

I have a couple of mates, retired but had their own businesses, both Reds and the sort of lads you can enjoy a bit of banter with. Normally. I won’t discuss politics with them because you can’t. They flat out believe Johnson is the single best thing since Churchill because he’s led the country out of Europe, got rid of ne’er do wells at a stroke and has led us to victory over Covid. These are seemingly level headed fellas who have done well for themselves, but they are shit scared of what happened in the 70’s with union power and believed more of the same would come from Corbyn and now the strikes are spooking them.

When one of them kicked off about benefit cheats taking money from the exchequer, I countered with the fact he preferred dealing in cash to avoid paying taxes and that this was the same thing as it prevented money going into the exchequer and he walked out of the pub we were in at the time. That’s why I don’t talk politics as its pretty much useless. Its indoctrination via the Daily Xenophobe and media and its getting tougher for the Labour party and Socialists to get unbiased treatment, and the public lap it up.

I argued with some fella the other night about the strike. He is a self employed painter and decorater. He basically thinks that the rail staff are greedy bastards and think they are more important than everyone else. Moaning that he doesn't get time and a half at the weekend.

I explained to him that if he had to drive to Crewe at 1am on a Saturday and start painting someone's house would he not expect to be paid more money than if he did if he painted a house in Bootle during daytime hours. He also gets to choose when and where he works and his painting skills aren't essential to the economy or that if he was shit at a job he wouldn't end up in court charged with someone's death.

He also does tons of cash in hand work but justifies it by saying his rent is too high. The thick twat thought that all public sector workers went on furlough during the pandemic while self employed people kept the economy going.

Was in the pub with mates and acquaintances a few years back, and there were 8 self employed  ( taxi drivers / builders / other tradesmen ) to 2 employed ( including me). Not a single one of the s/e paid anywhere near the correct tax and thought it was hilarious that we had to. Yet at least half a dozen of the bastards were quite happy to blast ' scrougers and benefit fiddlers ' constantly.

Had the same argument with one lad I used to know. Always used to leave it to the last minute to pay his tax pleading poverty to get a third off sometimes.

Was earning 65K a year but doing loads of cash in hand work then claiming he only earned 21k to the tax and csa.

Then said that he doesn't get a pension but pissed away most of his money on ale and cocaine. Thought it was hilarious that his yearly tax bill was the same as two months of mine despite me earning less. He also moaned about immigrants bleeding the country dry.

Got some tradesman to do my bathroom and living room around ten years ago. He wanted 5 grand for the whole lot. I said I would transfer the money into his business account and he just looked at me horrified and said it would cost £6500 but wouldn't admit because it was for tax reasons and asked why I couldn't go the bank, get the 5 grand out and give it to him in an envelope.

A fella on my Facebook is an electrician and regular posts something like "I am not trying to rip you off, the price you pay is for my years of expertise and experience, if you want the job done cheaply go and ask someone less skilled than me".

His brother then put at the bottom "of course, this expertise will be cheaper if you pay me cash in hand"
