Nah those are safe from extinction, there were others that I can't think of right now. There would be perfectly acceptable common words for him to use but he'd choose the obscure option, it made him look incredibly intelligent.

Really? To pinch one of his oft-used phrases, he was about half as intelligent as he thought he was.
