"I have three more years with Liverpool. I'm satisfied, comfortable and my family are very happy.

"Rumours are difficult to control but it's flattering when a club like Barca are interested in you.

"I don't know if there has been contact between the clubs or with my agent. At the moment I don't think there's anything serious."

The Spain international hopes to finish his career back in his homeland, but he added: "I don't know how long I've got left in football, what I do know is I want to enjoy what remains and feel appreciated and at Liverpool I have that."

That's that then

We do not need a goalie. We need 2 CBs, a DM to compete with Lucas and an attacker to replace Downing. After that we need to be more compact, reduce the distance between the back 4 and the attack. Then we can just play the way we have been playing, things will be OK.

If he wants to go, we will. Im not convinced the owners wont see the 'benefit' in getting another £110k a week (allegedly) off the wage bill though.

That's why I've said if he does leave, we must get a big fee for him.

I think we will need a goalie if he leaves to join Barcelona mate.

Whether we do or not Begovic is better than Pepe anyway, and we stand to get a decent fee for a player who has underperformed for a while.

£10-12mill? bite their hands off.

And if Suarez leaves, we'll need a striker. Anyway, I'd prefer both of them to stay, we need to keep our experienced, good players. The priority to me is 2 CBs, another DM, and getting rid of Downing, with a replacement there.

This is becoming a regular occurrence now. Some hack will make some shit up, Pepe will deny it, but by that time the madness of the internet is in full swing - usually accompanied by statements like

"No player's bigger than the club"

"Fuck him. If he doesn't want to stay, we should scrape him off, soon as."

"He's shit anyway."

"Balague said it, so it's true."

"It's all over Twitter!" (ffs!)

No doubt it will come true one day - hopefully, when he's about 40 and due to step down to a smaller club - and when that day comes, everyone who has been wrong a thousand times will say "I told you so."

I don't think we can afford to lose him and I don't think he wants to leave. The only thing in this that worries me is that it's Barcelona; if they really do want to make a bid for him, Rodgers would have to be very persuasive to get him to stay.
