Ooredoo (formerly know as QTel) of Qatar wants to sponsor Liverpool

This is from Al Jazeera Sports, which is owned by the Qatari Royal Family, the same owners as Ooredoo.

The link below is in Arabic but has quotes from a director in the company which I translated below.

"The goal was to sponsor a big English club with a huge history, our search included Arsenal & Manchester United but the former two have long sponsorship deals and the same applies to Manchester City so Liverpool is the only club available right now."

"We want to sponsor the club in full. We want to sponsor the Stadium (possibly rename it) as well as the club's kits. Our goal is to reach the Asian markets where the Premier League has an enormous fan base."

"We received the tender from the club a few days ago and we are currently in the process of due diligence and we are studying each aspect of the study."

"It is a dual interest, Liverpool needs the money to compete with the European heavyweights and we want to expand our brand to reach new markets via football."

The sweet talking bastards, so after your first choice, your second choice and then your third choice all not being available, probably your fourth, fifth and sixth as well. After all of them you chose us, how nice.

I'm not totally against renaming Anfield.

It will still be the same as it ever was, everybody will still refer to it as Anfield and it will give us a lot more money to play with and expand. We've been so far behind everyone else commercially for a long time and it's about time we started to really play on our name. Sometimes we can be too sentimental and it's getting us nowhere.

If this is true, it is interesting they talk of sponsoring the full club and have received a tender from the club.

I wonder if they mean buy the club?

Sounds like there is more interest in Stadium naming rights than Ayre has let on.

A big club with a huge history?

The fuck is Man City's name mentioned then? One title in 50 years puts you in that band now does it. Interesting.

They can give us 200 odd mill to call Anfield what ever the fuck they want as long as it is spent on the team not banked by FSG. It will always be Anfield.

Seconded. It's the only realistic way back to the top. FSG haven't got cash to burn on players Citeh style.
