Wonder if the latest antics from those in charge at the club are due to not wanting to upset people standing close by with large wads of cash?

Stolen from rawk

This is from Al Jazeera Sports, which is owned by the Qatari Royal Family, the same owners as Ooredoo.

The link below is in Arabic but has quotes from a director in the company which I translated below.

"The goal was to sponsor a big English club with a huge history, our search included Arsenal & Manchester United but the former two have long sponsorship deals and the same applies to Manchester City so Liverpool is the only club available right now."

"We want to sponsor the club in full. We want to sponsor the Stadium (possibly rename it) as well as the club's kits. Our goal is to reach the Asian markets where the Premier League has an enormous fan base."

"We received the tender from the club a few days ago and we are currently in the process of due diligence and we are studying each aspect of the study."

"It is a dual interest, Liverpool needs the money to compete with the European heavyweights and we want to expand our brand to reach new markets via football."

Why don't they just buy the club?

Al Jazeera has reported the Qatari investment firm 'Ooredoo' has decalred a strong interest in 'full investment' Liverpool FC with a view to boosting asian markets and promoting the upcoming World Cup in the region.

This is what was said on Al Jazeera by the Ooredoo rep:

"The goal was to sponsor a big English club with a huge history, our search included Arsenal & Manchester United but the former two have long sponsorship deals and the same applies to Manchester City so Liverpool is the only club available right now."

So...thoughts?

We're being sponsored by Oobidoo's?

Well at least we'll be able to pick up some cheap 80s albums at knockdown prices.

And if we can't get them to sponsor us we should go after the prestigious Binns account.

Fourth choice?

Fucking poke it.

I don't think it is 4th choice. I think they've said they looked at all the big name clubs and we're the ones not locked into a long significant deal so we were the obvious choice.

However, we also need to remember that we've not won the league for 23 years. So whether we like it or not, we're currently a mid table club with a big name as opposed to a top table club with a big name. We are not in a position to tell people to fuck off just because they don't think we're the biggest and best. That, and the fact we're not 12 should also mean we don't tell people to fuck off just because we maybe weren't their first choice.

When does the Standard Chartered deal finish?

End of next season mate

I hope this is true. I think alot of shit our owners get is unjust. I like their idea of how the club should be run...unfortunatley its not put into practice. So for Qatari investors to come on board should see more funds. Again, its how the funds are spent that is always unfortunate.

Saying that again, get that defence sorted and we will be up their with the rest of them anyway.

Without wishing to piss on anyone's dreams, they are just a telco looking for a sponsorship deal with global reach, particularly as they have just rebranded to a name that is not massively popular with a number of their non-Arabic business units. Having had the occasional dealings with them, they are not as cash-rich as you might think and they are hugely unlikely to be a Trojan horse for Qatari investment.

Sorry guys, but this is just a corporate announcing that they are thinking about a sponsorship deal in order to generate a bit of positive PR in their local markets. They might bid, they may even be able to win or drive our asking price up a bit, but they are not a panacea to our investment needs
