Hillsborough justice campaigner Anne Williams dies at 62

 

 

Mrs Williams, who had fought for the new inquest into her son Kevin's death in the 1989 football tragedy, had been suffering from cancer.

 

Kevin was one of 96 Liverpool fans who died as a result of a crush during a FA Cup match at the Sheffield stadium.

 

Mrs Williams made her last public appearance on Monday at the annual Hillsborough memorial service at Liverpool's Anfield stadium.

I know she didn't get to see the Justice served that she and all the victims so deserve, but I hope she took much comfort in the Truth getting out.

So many have done so much to keep the fight going, but in this week of all weeks especially, Anne Williams should receive every honour possible.

The integrity and dignity with which she carried herself from first day to last is truly inspirational.

 

Inspirational is a word too often used with no real depth or meaning. Here it isn't.

 

I know for a fact I could never have done what she did. She always said the right thing, even doing so this very week.
