House insurance help needed

My mum was burgled a few weeks ago and the insurance company have told her the value of the jewellery she lost was £10k - amazing really but it was a lifetimes collection of cheap gold and the odd bit her mum left her.

Anyway, they've offered £10k in vouchers to spend at a jewellers or £6k cash. She doesn't really want to go out and spend £10k immediately but doesn't want to lose £4k. I've suggested that she tries to buy £10k of gold from a jeweller so she's not paying the markup on items and she can sell it to another jeweller and get a lot closer to the £10k.

Anyone done anything similar or have any ideas of getting the full value from the jeweller. Do high street jewellers even sell gold like this?

Keep pushing them for a payout in cash at the correct value of £10,000. They've already acknowledge the true value of the jewellery and are taking the piss offering £6,000.

Worst comes to the worst threaten them with the Ombudsman.

Speak to the Ombudsman mate.

Alternatively you can take the voucher and sell it on eBay for probably £9,000+ though obviously only offer it for cash on collection. Not sure how easy this would be considering the high value though.
