Don't they have a private company that gives you free shit now? Sure I saw a thing once that said their representatives are one of the first people allowed in with the new mum, even before family, they give her a goody bag but then take all her details for marketing purposes. Either that or it was a nightmare.

You get a bag of free crap down here, but the midwife just drops it by the side of the bed. Wouldn't really be logistically doable to have a sales rep hanging around on birth alert I wouldn't have thought.

I disagree. There are plenty of females who would do such a job and quite willingly too. Especially if she showed up with these goody bags.

just say yes and it will all go away.

Look where that got us all with EU membership.

To be honest, it's not the thing itself, although, the goal posts have massively changed, but the thought of all that bitterness and the impact on personal friendships being brought out again

They've been giving these boxes in Finland for a very long time, and if it can be shown that there's a link between that and lower rates of infant mortality, then it's not a crazy policy.

Certainly it's far preferable to the "named person" policy they had to scrap, which was crazy (and illegal).

I was talking about goodie bags containing baby things such as a couple of nappies, baby talc, baby cream, shampoo et al,but you have raised a great point about those baby boxes used in Scandinavia for many years reducing Sudden Infant Death significantly. Proud to say that my sister is heavily involved in the introduction of those boxes into the UK through her job. She's even featured in the Echo and most local papers in between all the headlines about local thugs and gangsters which the Echo prides itself on!

I'm not going to apologise for being stupendously happy.

I've spent too long being a miserable, cynical cunt.

You can still be happy and a cynical cunt.

Been working at both for years. The unwanted by-product is anger,

I have now decided I must be happy being angry,

Even with the shitty weather I would rather live in Scotland under the SNP than a Tory junta taking England over a cliff to satisfy their xenophobic passions.

Thing is though, what does anyone actually know about the SNP? At the moment they seem to be a bit of a one trick pony, a party that preys on anti-Englishness the way UKIP prey on anti-European sentiment. I know most lefties down these parts think they're a load of shite.

Personally I'm not arsed either way, if I was Scottish I'd be well up for independence for the reason you state, whether or not they'll be better off though long term I'd be extremely wary of.

I've heard people talking about Northern Ireland being reunited with the Republic because of Brexit, but don't people in the North have a far better standard of living? I thought the Republic was on its arse with lots of people moving abroad for work?

I think Britain probably has things to lose by getting out of the EU, but that doesn't mean a smaller country necessarily has a lot to gain. Just ask Greece, or basically anyone who isn't Germany.
